Assistant Project Directors

Assistant Project Directors
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is a newly created organisation that promotes fair competition, within and outside the UK, to support economic growth and protect the best interests of consumers and businesses. Our work is complex and compelling and can benefit the lives of everyone in the UK – and for those who join us at this formative time it offers a uniquely exciting professional opportunity.
Our Assistant Project Directors have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of projects including competition and consumer enforcement, mergers, markets and regulatory appeals projects. These projects are often high profile, complex and precedent-setting with significant market impact.  Recent examples include Competition Act investigations into hotel on-line booking, vehicle distribution and pharmaceuticals, consumer enforcement projects on children's on-line games and energy efficiency, merger investigations including Barr's proposed acquisition of Britvic and Ryanair's stake in Aer Lingus, and market projects such motor insurance, pay-day lending, pensions and dentistry.
Your role will be to bring leadership and direction to teams of multi-disciplinary staff, ensuring the delivery of high quality, legally robust and timely projects. You will ensure that projects are managed effectively and fairly, with clear accountability, the right resources in place and high levels of professionalism throughout. There will also be an opportunity to take on the role of Project Director on some occasions, depending on the levels of complexity involved as well as taking the lead on individual workstreams carrying out complex analysis. You will offer clear advice and direction to colleagues and engage proactively with a wide range of stakeholders. You will instil confidence in our work by ensuring that recommendations are evidence-based, well-reasoned and consistent with the CMA's objectives and policies.
It's important that you can demonstrate real strength in project management of projects of this nature. You will be highly professional, able to get to grips with project objectives quickly, identifying and mitigating any challenges to successful outcomes. You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to influence and motivate colleagues and other stakeholders. You will enjoy working on a variety of projects to tight deadlines and be able to demonstrate high levels of analytical acumen and the ability to devise effective solutions to complex and strategic issues. Previous experience in the competition, consumer or regulatory areas would be valuable but is not essential.
These roles offer real scope for professional development and will suit individuals who are driven and ambitious and who thrive on a diverse workload. In the CMA there is real emphasis on delivering to the very highest standards and you will be able to develop your skills and knowledge quickly within an organisation that has the reputation and ability to support your career.
We have an excellent benefits package, including pension, and encourage a healthy work/life balance
