The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is a newly created organisation that promotes fair competition, within and outside the UK, to support economic growth and protect the best interests of consumers and businesses. Our work is complex and compelling and can benefit the lives of everyone in the UK – and for those who join us at this formative time it offers a uniquely exciting professional opportunity.
Our Project Managers/Advisers play an integral part in the successful delivery of a variety of projects that fall within the CMA's remit including competition and consumer enforcement, mergers, markets and regulatory appeals projects. These projects are often high profile, complex and precedent-setting with significant market impact. Recent examples include Competition Act investigations into hotel on-line booking, vehicle distribution and pharmaceuticals, consumer enforcement projects on children's on-line games and energy efficiency, merger investigations including Barr's proposed acquisition of Britvic and Ryanair's stake in Aer Lingus, and market projects such as motor insurance, pay-day lending, pensions and dentistry.
You will play a key role as part of multidisciplinary teams in delivering a range of high quality, legally robust and timely projects. The role will vary from project to project and will depend on your skills and experience. As a Project Manager you will take the lead in driving the project forward on a day to day basis, help devise the scope of the project consistent with the CMA's wider strategic goals, manage risks and ensure that the project is run following appropriate processes including ensuring that all stakeholders are treated fairly. Depending on your experience, on some projects you may act as a Project Adviser leading in delivering analytical or technical workstreams.
Whatever the role you play, you will be passionate about your work and highly professional, able to deliver results in challenging timeframes, make decisions and come up with effective solutions. You will develop influential relationships with a wide variety of people including parties and their advisers as well as with colleagues at all levels of seniority within the CMA. In addition to a track record in managing and delivering projects of this nature, you should have experience in gathering, analysing and managing complex information and in drafting reports for a variety of audiences. You should also be able to instil confidence in your colleagues and be experienced in managing and developing colleagues.
Previous experience in the competition, consumer or regulatory areas would be valuable but is not essential, and we are keen to receive applications from a wide variety of professional backgrounds.
These roles offer real scope for professional development and will suit individuals who are driven and ambitious and who will thrive on a diverse workload. In the CMA there is real emphasis on delivering the very highest standards and you will be able develop your skills and knowledge quickly within an organisation that has the reputation and ability to support your career.
We have an excellent benefits package, including pension, and encourage a healthy work/life balance.
