We are a busy City centre hotel, serving up delicious modern African and Continental cuisine as well as other ethnic specialities, and we need an experienced cook to join our energetic team.

We are looking for someone with at least two years experience cooking in different styles and cuisines – everything from traditional African classics to Asian-inspired dishes and Continental cuisine– who is hard-working, organised, creative, and passionate about food and customer service. You will be able to work in a high-pressure, high-turnover environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be a team player and also able to work unsupervised. You will also be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Applicants must possess the following skills:

Food preparation and cooking, plating, presentation
Kitchen maintenance and cleaning
Maintaining and ordering stocks and supplies
Menu planning
Following food safety requirements

In return, you will receive a competitive salary and be eligible for future promotion to a supervisory or head cook role as per performance.

We are the home of Authentic Tanzanian Hospitality in Dar es Salaam. Our menu is predominantly African and Continental Cuisine as well as other ethnic contemporary dishes

We only use fresh, seasonal ingredients of the highest quality in our dishes

The successful candidate will

• Be confident managing a team of 10, including in the Head Chefs absence
• Proven ability at Sous level with at least 2 years in a similar position
• A positive can do attitude/approach
• Experience in growing and developing a successful food operation
• An absolute dedication and enthusiasm to delivering high quality, fresh food
• Experience in new menu development and a creative flair
• Ability to manage Food Cost and food stocks
• Proven knowledge of all Food Safety practices
• Have good communication skills and be English speaking
• Must be eligible to live and work in the United Republic of Tanzania
• Be organised. Writing specials, costing dishes, rotas and all other paperwork in good time.
• Be happy to work closely with the Head Chef & F&B Manager when writing menus

Scope and General Purpose of Job:

Under the general guidance and direction of the General Manager or delegate and within the limits of established Hotel policies, procedures and departmental standards, assists in overseeing of the operations within the Human Resources Department.

To maintain the highest standard of service and operations efficiency, within your areas of responsibility.

Main Responsibilities

Telephone handling and appointment scheduling / Receiving and making outgoing enquires via phone, fax or email
Writing and answering correspondence to and from the department including references for past employees, and all employee correspondence e.g. Certificates of employment etc.
Dealing with complaints
Taking minutes of meetings e.g. investigatory, disciplinary meetings
Responding to incoming applications, applicant screening
Maintaining all filing systems including employee files, archive files
Organising, presenting training sessions
Tracing file and daily up-date on filing
Review employee evaluations
Planning and creating articles for employee Newsletter
Conducting orientation for new hires
Coordination of employee transfer requests and other employee related requests if applicable
Assisting with the end of month payroll with collecting and checking all paperwork
Creation of statistics and forms
Special projects follow through and finishing
General Responsibilities

To be fully aware, competent in and follow at all times:

Hotel fire procedures
Hotel security procedures
Hotel health & safety policy and procedures
Hotel facilities and opportunities to promote these to customers
Customer service standards
Company and Hotel performance and conduct guidelines, policies and procedures
To attend all fire, heath and safety, training as requested.
To work in a safe manner at all times, to ensure personal safety and the safety of colleagues and visitors to the hotel and report anything that may jeopardise safety to your Manager upon discovery including the actions of fellow colleagues.

To report for duty on time and on the days roistered.

To be familiar with and work to the stated standards both as an individual and a member of the Hotel team to achieve the Hotel Mission Statement.
