Programme description
The UNITAR Peacekeeping Training Programme (PTP) is a specialized programme in the framework of the Peace, Security and Diplomacy Unit of UNITAR, which offers a systematic and comprehensive preparation, through innovative and results-oriented trainings, in the fields of peacekeeping and peacebuilding. Since its establishment in 2009, UNITAR PTP provides high-quality training comprised of both basic and advanced courses.
UNITAR PTP is supported by an Advisory Board comprised of six eminent specialists and practitioners widely recognized in their fields of expertise from within and outside the UN system. Drawing on its Board Members' vast experience and knowledge, and enjoying the support of the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), UNITAR PTP mission is to ensure that the programme remains on the cutting-edge of training in the areas of peacekeeping and peacebuilding.
UNITAR PTP offers an internship/traineeship opportunity for young professionals or fresh postgraduate students. The working experience is designed to allow interns/trainees to strengthen their knowledge and gain practical experience in the training and learning field, with a specialization in topics related to peacekeeping and peacebuilding.
The internship / traineeship
UNITAR PTP is now accepting applications from qualified applicants interested in working for a minimum of five months on a full-time unpaid basis at UNITAR headquarters in Geneva. Under the supervision of the Manager of the Peacekeeping Training Programme, the intern/trainee will assist in the day to day work of the unit which entails a wide range of activities.
Individual work plans will be designed in accordance with specific terms of reference, which also highlight learning objectives as the internship/traineeship is intended to allow trainees/interns to develop specific skills and competences.
Specific working areas will include:
· Support the administration of UNITAR PTP accredited capacity-building activities in the fields of conflictology, peacekeeping and peacebuilding (communication with applicants and participants, selection and review of applications, enrolment, management of the mailbox, etc.);
· Support the review of the content, activities, structure and instructional design of the UNITAR PTP course 'Carana: Preparing for Deployment' (development of immersive scenario documents, drafting of case studies, review of activities, review of lessons, etc.);
· Support the development of the content, activities and structure of courses for face-to-face delivery (Conflict Analysis, Conflict Transformation, Good Governance and Peacebuilding );
· Support the evaluation of UNITAR PTP accredited capacity-building activities in the fields of conflictology, peacekeeping and peacebuilding (questionnaires, interviews);
· Support the implementation of the communication and outreach strategy to raise awareness about UNITAR PTP capacity-building activities in the areas of conflictology, peacekeeping and peacebuilding (drafting of articles on peacekeeping, training needs, UNITAR PTP projects and activities, etc.);
Qualifications
Applicants should have a solid background in the following fields:
· Peace Studies / International Studies/ Development;
· Education/Training.
Skills required
The intern/trainee should possess good organizational and research skills, working knowledge of MS Office Suite, excellent internet and e-mail skills, and readiness to learn new IT tools in order to be able to efficiently work in the virtual learning environment. Other qualities, such as willingness to learn, dedication and independence at work are welcome.
Languages
Proficiency in English and possibly French is essential; knowledge of another UN language will be considered an asset.
Internship term: up to 6 months
The internship programme is normally on a full-time basis but part-time arrangements can be agreed upon depending on both the requirements of the department/programme and the availability of the intern.

Status
Interns are considered gratis personnel. They are not financially remunerated by UNITAR. They are not staff members and shall not represent the Institute in any official capacity.
