About us: Founded in 1958, the Aussätzigen-Hilfswerk Österreich (Austrian Leprosy Relief Association, ALRA) works towards overcoming leprosy in the fight to combat neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). We strive for inclusion for those affected by leprosy. This is part of our rights-based approach to health sector development. Building on the successes of anti-leprosy work, we focus on capacity development (CD in health education). We are committed to primary health care (PHC) and the Alma Ata Declaration. We seek to overcome charity, realising solidarity. The target region of our work is in greater East Africa (Uganda, Zanzibar and Yemen).
Amongst others, ALRA is a member of:
ILEP – The International Federation of Anti-Leprosy Associations coordinates the collaboration of its members in order to overcome leprosy around the world. Resources are pooled, relief programmes receive reciprocal support, experience is exchanged, and contacts and common strategies are synchronised with national programmes.
KOO – Koordinierungsstelle der Österreichischen Bischofskonferenz (Coordination Office of the Austrian Bishops' Conference). The Coordination Office promotes and coordinates the commitment of the Austrian Catholic Church to development and is aimed at raising awareness and creating a sense of solidarity amongst people in Austria. KOO is a member of CIDSE (International Cooperation for Development and Solidarity).
Stop TB Alliance– Initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO), the alliance unites more than 500 governmental and non-governmental organisations in order to control and standardise treatment for those infected with tuberculosis.
