OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The role of the AMISOM/UN Outreach Coordinator is to help AMISOM's civilian units in their activities in support of the mission's mandate in Somalia. Additionally, the post will be required to assist in building good relations and cooperation between parties.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
· Support the daily activities of the HLU.
· Implement operational plans for the HLU, jointly with the AMISOM Senior Humanitarian Liaison Officer.
· Deliver at least 6 technical workshops to develop and implement Information sharing systems between parties through the Joint Information Sharing Unit (JISU).
· Work with the Senior Humanitarian Liaison Officer to provide oversight and technical expertise in order to develop AMISOM CIMIC's capacity, both at Force HQ and at sector level.
· Develop AMISOM's implementation capacity for QIPs through joint collaboration with the AMISOM Senior Humanitarian Liaison Officer and the AMISOM Senior Civil Affairs Officer.
· Ensure access to the AMISOM Trust Fund to enable QIPs to be funded.
· Work closely with JPU, IIH and IAT to influence information sharing and cooperation between AMISOM and UNSOM through shared mechanisms.
· Provide monthly written progress reports directly to the UK Ambassador for Somalia.
· Hold regular fortnightly progress meetings with the UK Mil Rep for Somalia.
Line Management and Reporting
· UN will be responsible for the overall management of the project. The post will be reporting to the Head of Somalia Support Unit but based inside AMISOM and working as a member of the AMISOM team. Under the overall direction of the SRCC, the post will be working as part of the newly formed AMISOM Humanitarian Liaison UNIT (HLU) primarily in support of the AMISOM Senior Humanitarian Liaison Officer and Civil-Military Unit.
Duty Station
This position will be accommodated in the UN compound in Mogadishu International Airport, with travel on mission to areas outside Mogadishu with AMISOM and UN as and when required. Additionally, travel to Nairobi is also required to ensure close liaison and security will be provided as standard for all UN staff.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
· Extensive experience working with AMISOM in South-Central Somalia
· Extensive experience working within UN Somalia structures
· Knowledge of and experience working with the AU, particularly the Security and Peacebuilding related Departments
· Civil military relations
· Community engagement, participation and development, particularly within militarised stabilisation environments
· Hostile environment trained
