Director Disaster Risk Reduction & Disaster Response
(Duty station The Hague)
The unit Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Response assists communities with prevention, preparation, emergency aid and recovery. At the office in The Hague, 20 staff members work with partners in 16 high-risk countries in Africa, Asia and Central America. The staff consists of an operational manager, program managers, program officers, financial officer, experts and a business developer. The unit's focus theme's are: District resilience, urban resilience, emergency relief and recovery and climate change resilience.
Your tasks
As Director you have a clear vision on DRR & DR, you are very familiar with the trends in this field. You develop and implement the DRR & DR strategy based on the Cordaid mission. Furthermore you are responsible for the financial results of the unit. You represent Cordaid in international networks like Caritas and you build/bring a network that is needed for achieving the unit's results. An important part of your work is developing strong relationships with strategic institutional donors in the field of DRR & DR and you have a leading role in fundraising for the unit. Also you look for profitable opportunities to work with other Cordaid units and country offices. Together with the operational manager you lead the unit. Your focus will be on strategy and external networking, where as the operational manager will focus on the internal affairs of the unit.
Your profile
You have a MBA or a master in a related field.
You have a minimum of 5 years' experience with management of professionals within an international organization and preferably work experience in Africa, Asia or Central America.
You have proven experience and knowledge of Disaster risk reduction and Disaster response.
You have excellent business skills.
You have an excellent track record in fundraising and representing.
You have proven affinity with international cooperation and social entrepreneurship.
You are a strong networker with relevant private sector, institutional donor and foundation contacts.
You are fluent in English and preferably French.
You have an entrepreneurial personality.
You are an inspirational and innovative leader.
