ILRI vacancy (INTERNAL): Procurement Assistant

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works at the crossroads of livestock and poverty, bringing high-quality livestock science, communications and capacity building to bear on poverty reduction and sustainable development. ILRI is one of 15 centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ILRI has campuses in Kenya (headquarters) and Ethiopia, with other offices located in other regions of Africa (Mali, Mozambique, and Nigeria) as well as in South Asia (India, Sri Lanka), Southeast Asia (Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam) and East Asia (China).
ILRI seeks to recruit a Procurement Assistant.

Responsibilities
  • Reports to the Procurement Officer and is responsible for sourcing suppliers of the requested purchases as per the purchase requisition terms of reference for the relevant level (value) and category of items requested by the user departments for local purchases;
  • Evaluate supplier and bid analysis for all stock items for the above categories of goods and services for Total Cost of Ownership (ToC);
  • Sun Systems purchase order entry, dispatch of purchase orders to suppliers and consequent follow up on delivery of items in a timely manner;
  • Maintain the procurement filing system and records, filing all purchase order documents and retrieval of documents for purchase order status report feedback and audit purposes;
  • Participate in Tender Evaluation Committees.
Skills and Qualifications 
  • Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies Management or related field.
  • Two years working experience in procurement or related field
  • Membership of Kenya Institute of Supplies Management Computer proficiency (Email, Internet, Word, Excel, Access or other data-base management).
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI's Nairobi campus and is open to Kenyan nationals only.  The position is on a 2-year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Job level and salary: This position is job level 1C and starting salary is KES.48,833.00. This is exclusive of other benefits provided by ILRI.
