Fairfood is an Amsterdam-based non-profit organisation that envisions a fair & sustainable food system able to adequately produce and provide nutritious food for everyone in a way that preserves the environment and natural resources for future generations, respects human rights and secures a thriving economy for all, thereby contributing to ending hunger and poverty.
It is Fairfood's mission to improve the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable people, such as smallholder farmers, workers (especially women) and consumers in our food system and to ensure the sustainable production and consumption of food, by influencing the policies and practices of global food and beverage companies and governments.
Purpose of the position:
As Campaign Assistant (Knowledge, Learning and Capacity Development),your main role will be to support the Knowledge, Learning and Capacity Development unit to conduct research, identify new partners and prepare for capacity development activities.
Core responsibilities:
· You will support the Advocacy Manager (Knowledge, Learning and Capacity Development) to conduct research. This may include: mapping and selecting partners within sub-Saharan Africa; developing research on key commodities and the sustainability issues related to these commodities; and/or conducting value chain analysis
· As part of the Knowledge, Learning and Capacity Development unit, you will advise and support the Fair Price team regarding incorporating capacity development into their campaign addressing identified labour rights issues in the key commodity
· You may support the Advocacy Manager (Knowledge, Learning and Capacity Development) to prepare for specific capacity development activities
· You will also assist the Advocacy Manager (Knowledge, Learning and Capacity Development) with various administrative tasks
Position within the organisation:
As Campaign Assistant (Knowledge, Learning and Capacity Development), you will be working under the direct supervision of the Advocacy Manager (Knowledge, Learning and Capacity Development) (based in Johannesburg) and in close collaboration with the members of the Knowledge, Learning and Capacity Development unit and the Fair Price team.
Competences:
You have excellent demonstrated research and capacity development skills • You are also results-oriented, analytical and quality focused • You have very good organisational skills and manage your time well • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and preferably French as well • You are able to work independently, and often flexibly, but are also a team player • You have affinity with Fairfood's goals
Knowledge and Experience:
You are studying at or have graduated from a higher education institution or university or have acquired an equivalent working and thinking level through work experience • Knowledge of the food and beverage industry, capacity development, sub-Saharan Africa and/or a degree related to sustainability and international development are big assets • Experience in working with partners and/or conducting desk research is a plus

We value our volunteers to whom we offer reimbursement of home-work travel as well as lunch when they are in the office.
Weekly hours: 16 hours to 32 hours a week (two to four full days per week)
Duration: Three to four months with the possibility of renewal, starting as soon as possible.
