The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a leading global institution for development researchteaching and learning, and impact and communications, based at the University of Sussex. Founded in 1966, IDS enjoys an international reputation based on the quality of our work and our commitment to applying academic skills to real-world challenges.
As it approaches its 50th Anniversary under the leadership of a new Director, Professor Melissa Leach, IDS is also embarking on an exciting new strategic research agenda focusing on reducing inequality, accelerating environmental sustainability and building inclusive and secure societies.
We are seeking to appoint new Fellows to join us at this exciting time of momentum and change, who bring cutting-edge and forward looking research interests and agendas to these broad, cross-cutting IDS themes.
IDS Research Fellows come from a range of disciplines – including economics, political science, anthropology, sociology, geography, health, environmental studies and others, and have the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment. We are especially interested in Fellows who can contribute to the methodological approaches of development economics, political economy, or participatory and action research. In addition, the Fellows we seek must have a demonstrated record of producing high quality research, a commitment to an approach of 'engaged excellence' in their work, and the ability to generate research funding.  All Fellows are expected to contribute to the research, teaching and training, advisory and influencing activities of the Institute.
As an IDS Fellow you will have a base in one of our dynamic and flexible clusters, according to your current research interests, and work across a number of other clusters.
