FIAN International is hiring a new Communications Officer to join our fast-paced, innovative, and dynamic team in Heidelberg.
Is this position for you? Do you have experience writing for websites, blogs and social media networks? Can you use search engine optimization and Google Analytics to craft language and later evaluate its effectiveness? Are you able to communicate to a wide variety of publics, in particular grassroots movements? And do you love the idea of using your skills to support the struggle of people around the world to enjoy their human right to adequate food and nutrition? As the Communications Officer, you would be on the frontlines of this process by activating, educating and mobilizing our supporters and online media outlets around the world.
PROFILE:
You are a creative individual with experience in the non-profit sector and passion for social justice and human rights. As the Communications Officer at FIAN International, you will promote the visibility of our human rights campaign worldwide by successfully advancing FIAN International's communications strategies. You have excellent writing skills and will effectively transmit our complex messages to different audiences on our websites, in blogs, and through other social network venues. Your strong interpersonal and coordination skills enable you to work well in collaborative processes, especially among international civil society organizations, networks and grassroots groups.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) based at the FIAN International Secretariat office in Heidelberg, Germany. You will work in an international team of 16 employees, under the supervision of the Communications Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advance, implement and evaluate social media and communications strategies.
- Write and edit copy content for web and print.
- Manage the day-to-day online campaign content on websites and social media channels.
- Create and manage multi-media content, including newsletters, images and videos
- Gather and analyze website analytics data and tailor strategy and tactics based on the analysis
- Coordinate communications work with different counterparts, including staff, FIAN International sections, as well as strategic partners at national and international levels.
- Liaise with external service providers, including translators, website developers and graphic designers.
REQUIREMENTS:
General Background:
- BA/MA in public relations, communications, journalism, or related field.
- Five years relevant experience in social media or public relations in an international environment.
- Proven experience in working with human rights or global justice issues.
Technical Abilities:
- Excellent writing skills.
- Ability to write impactful and engaging campaign messaging.
- Experience in writing for grass roots organizations public.
- Experience in planning, managing and executing online content strategies.
- Experience and knowledge with content management systems for website updates.
- Experience and knowledge with photo and video creation and management.
- Experience and knowledge with graphic design is an asset.
- Understanding and experience in writing for search engine optimization.
- Knowledge of current and emerging social media trends, developments and analysis programs.
- Experience in online fundraising is an asset.
Personal Attributes:
- Personal commitment to promote human rights.
- Native or near-native English.
- Effective operational proficiency in Spanish and French
- Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to multitask and prioritise.
- Capacity to do outreach and work effectively and comfortably with varied counterparts, including UN agencies, other human rights organizations and grassroots movements.
- Excellent attention to detail and responsiveness, reliability and dependability.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, geographically distributed team.
