Integrated Consultant for Conflict Management, DR Congo, #2922

The mission of the Civil Peace Service (CPS) programme consists of the non-violent and constructive conflict resolution. Professionals in CPS seek to prevent the outbreak of violent conflicts and contribute to settle existing violent conflicts peacefully. Based on the church-related and civil-social commitment of our partners in the DR Congo, the CPS aims to contribute to civil conflict management through peace-building measures.

Our partner, the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace (CEJP), was founded in 1978 and is a commission of the Congolese National Conference of Bishops (CENCO). The overall aim of the CEJP's work is to promote reconciliation initiatives and approaches for peaceful conflict resolution at community level. A reconciliation programme is being carried out in several provinces in the eastern, southern and western Congo in cooperation with several dozen political communities and church parishes. The partners of the programme are beneficiaries and multipliers in equal measure and include locally anchored NGOs and church parishes and initiatives, as well as local institutions and players respected by the local people. Given the failure for the most part of the state as a peacekeeping power, the main instrument of the programme is the strengthening and further development of traditional forms and players of local and regional government and the reactivation of traditional instruments of conflict management.

Your tasks

You will advise the CEJP reconciliation programme in terms of content and organisation. Among other things:

• You will advise and carry out training on the topics of conflict management, non-violent conflict transformation and further development of traditional forms of conflict management, psychosocial support and integration of victims of violence.
• You will establish a network of multipliers.
• You will advise on the further development of the programme Paix et Reconciliation in terms of content and will work on the evaluation and development of new concepts for programme components.
• You will advise on project management: control, monitoring, PME.
• You will work on compiling project reports and new applications.
• You will advise and work on documenting the programme and presenting it externally.
• You will help to build contacts among Catholic and ecumenical institutions in Germany.

Your profile

• You have completed a university degree relevant to the field of development cooperation (e.g. social sciences or Catholic theology) and have acquired at least five years of relevant professional experience. You have at least two years of experience working abroad, ideally in the African Great Lakes region.
• You have sound theoretical and practical knowledge in conflict management and adult education and good knowledge of Catholic theology.
• You have acquired professional experience in project management PME and in organisational consulting.
• You have initiative and diplomatic skill and have already worked successfully in process consulting.
• You have a confident and open style of communication and deal with unclear or rapidly changing situations productively.
• You are able to work under physical and mental stress and are prepared to travel to different provinces of the DR Congo.
• You can communicate in French, verbally and in writing, and have a basic knowledge of English.
• You are an EU or Swiss citizen and are a member of a Christian church, ideally the Catholic church.

Our offer

As per the German Development Aid Workers Act (Entwicklungshelfergesetz), you will receive an employment contract, including social security and a remuneration commensurate to the position.
