Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships:The Public Information Officer (PIO) / Reporting is located in the UNMEER Sierra Leone office (Freetown), and reports to the UNMEER National Ebola Response Centre (NERC) Strategic Adviser.
Responsibilities: Within delegated authority, the Public Information Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
· Co-chair the NERC communications group; work closely with national and international communication officers; supporting the development and implementation of joint communications strategies.
· Maintain a close collaboration with the UN Country Team and UNMEER Accra communications team and other agencies so as to ensure a smooth exchange of information between UNMEER Sierra Leone and the UNCT.
· Prepare daily media reports, prepare and systematically update information material (Fact Sheets, FAQs, backgrounders, data tables), briefings, and presentations on the situation in coordination with the NERC communication team.
· Manage reporting and analysis, by establishing and maintaining reporting system within the country; oversee drafting and distribution of regular reports on the Ebola crisis situation, including the weekly UNMEER/NERC situation report; ensure flow of information and analysis of developments in the country/region, including tracking trends and sharing reports with HQ, and key partners.
· Fact- and cross-check internal and external reports, situation reports, information and communication material used daily for accuracy and consistency.
· Develop and coordinate regular highlights for internal distribution.
· Assist UNMEER Sierra Leone in the production of other reports, donor appeals and updates related to the humanitarian assistance in the country following the standard reporting format/scheme;
· Maintain a close collaboration with the UN Country Team and UNMEER Accra communications team and other agencies so as to ensure a smooth exchange of information between UNMEER Sierra Leone and the UNCT.
· Perform other duties, as required.

Qualifications:
Experience:A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required. Humanitarian experience in the field (actual setting where a mission and/or project is being implemented) in emergency situations (complex emergency or natural disaster) is required.
Education: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Language: Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
