THE ORGANIZATION

John Snow, Inc. (JSI), a US-based technical assistance firm, is implementing various public health-related projects in Tanzania aimed at strengthening the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare's (MOHSW) service delivery, with funding from United States Government through USAID, CDC and other US agencies represented in Tanzania.

The Supply Chain Management System (SCMS), MCHIP and USAID|DELIVER PROJECT are implemented under United States Agent for International Development (USAID) contracts through funding from United States of America government (USG). These projects managed in Tanzania by John Snow, Inc. (JSI) provides quality medicines, strengthens and establishes secure, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable supply chains, capable of meeting the prevention, care and treatment needs of people of Tanzania including those living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

JSI Tanzania field office seeks to employ a dynamic and self oriented person to work as Project Accountant Associate for a one year fixed contract.

TITLE: Project Accountant Associate (1 Position)

REPORTS TO:  Senior Project Accountant
LOCATION: Country Office, Dar es Salaam

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Project Accountant Associate is responsible for providing overall administrative support to the Accountant Unit particularly in regards to maintaining the accounting filing system, and office petty cash for both projects. Project Accountant Associate will be called upon to assist the unit in the month end closing activities as well as participate in the day to day running of the unit. This position will report to and working alongside the Senior Project Accountant and other in the accounting unit.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Complete electronic filing of all JSI voucher transactions.

Ensuring that all files are properly saved and maintained in the network.

Photocopying all processed vouchers (from QuickBooks system) with their supporting documents on weekly basis.

Finalize monthly submission of original field accounts to HQ.

Manage Petty Cash for all projects

Ensuring that all tables in Accounts Unit are paper free for any irrelevant documents/materials, and that all accounts documents are filed in the appropriate locations.

Ensuring that any sensitive and confidential documents are properly filed and/or locked in the correct places.

Receiving all incoming Invoices & Purchase Orders prior being reviewed by the Project Accountant.

Assist in the organization of account payable invoices.

Assist the Accounts Unit during the month end closing of accounts/books.

Support implementation of mobile money payments as necessary.

Performing bank runs including depositing and withdrawal of money in cash/checks.

Performing any other duty(ies) as may be assigned by his/her supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

Applicants for this position should be Tanzanian nationals possessing the following minimum qualifications:

Recognized professional qualification in accounting.
Experience in using QuickBooks Accounting system strongly desired.

Excellent verbal and written English.

Communicates with colleagues in a clear and courteous manner.

Ability to take initiative and work in teams with minimum supervision.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook required.

Financial experience with a USAID-funded project and knowledge of USAID rules and regulations preferred.

Able and willing to travel within the country when required and if necessary.

Experience working with an NGO an added advantage.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality for all company and staff proprietary matters.

REMUNERATION:

A competitive remuneration and benefits package will be offered to the successful candidate for the above positions based on qualification, experience and salary history. Note this is a one year fixed contract depending on project span.
