Job purpose:
Reporting to the Senior Projects Manager, the Project Manager will be responsible for managing and delivering all aspects of a BBC Media Action Tanzania nutrition project, focusing on child and maternal health. The Project Manager will ensure the project has the maximum possible impact on partners and audiences and that the project outputs – media-sector capacity building, development-partner capacity building, and radio outputs – are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest possible standards.
Main Duties:
• To deliver the project on time, to budget and to the highest standards in terms of quality, effectiveness, impact and relevance, meeting objectives clearly defined in the project proposal;
• Responsible for the co-ordination, planning, budgeting, reporting and general management of all aspects of the project. This includes working with BBC Media Action staff in Tanzania and London to define and develop programme direction, strategies and activities;
• Work closely with internal production, research and training teams to ensure that project objectives are being met;
• Maintaining external relationships with project partners, donors and other stakeholders;
• Support to the project and production teams to understand thematic priorities, and the role of media and communications in this sector;
• Work closely with Research team to ensure research activities are planned, designed, and delivered in line with project objectives;
• Line management of the junior project staff;
• Prepare donor and internal reports on projects progress and impact and lesson learning data;
• Commission, write and manage web and communications related information on project progress, lessons and impact;
• Generate new project ideas and proposals to further strengthen the impact and reach of the BBC Media Action portfolio in Tanzania;
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned.
Required skills, knowledge and experience:
• At least 3 years' experience in international development, with demonstrable experience in project planning and management of systems;
• Experience managing the project budget cycle – project design, budget development and management, work-plan and schedule building, implementation of activities, monitoring progress against objectives, reviewing and reporting;
• Experience in managing nutrition, media and training activities in Tanzania a distinct advantage;
• Experience of project fundraising, including networking with donors and drafting project proposals distinct advantage;
• Ability to make sound judgments on editorially sensitive programme issues;
• Experience in line management of staff;
• Strong commitment to, and understanding of, development issues in Tanzania;
• Experience writing project briefs, reports, terms of reference and other project documents;
• Fluency in English and Swahili and ability to write reports in those languages.
