Religious Education Teachers




Religious Education Teachers
First Parish in Lexington, a Unitarian Universalist Congregation, seeks to hire two paid lead teachers for its Elementary (Second-Third Grade) and Intermediate (Fourth - Fifth Grade) Cluster classes. This position will begin immediately, and continue through the third week of June, 2015.
Ideally, we are looking for candidates who match any of the following criteria:
  • Current or former Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, Montessori teachers; Spirit or Godly Play leaders
  • Current or former elementary school teachers
  • Current college students or recent college graduates with a major in early childhood or elementary education
General Responsibilities:
  • Work under the direct supervision of the Interim Director of Lifespan Religious Education (IDLRE)
  • Collaborate with the IDLRE to develop curriculum based on weekly themes
  • Plan and lead weekly learning activities for preschool - 1st graders, or 2nd – 4th graders
  • Lead volunteers in conducting specific activities related to curriculum
  • Maintain attendance information and related reporting
  • Write a short description of the class's activities for a monthly e-newsletter
Specific Requirements:
  • Must be able to teach nearly every Sunday during the church year from approximately 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Must be able to conduct two hours of preparation time each week during the church year (generally offsite, but may require attendance at meetings onsite), and 10 hours of preparation time prior to the beginning of the church year
  • CORI check required
Experience/Strengths:
  • Enjoys and relates well with young children
  • Mature, responsible adult
  • Collaborative, friendly nature
  • Articulate
  • Sense of humor
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
  • Previous teaching experience; preferably in early education or religious education
  • Previous experience (preferred) or working familiarity with the values, principles, and practices of the Unitarian Universalist faith
  • Ability to motivate and lead volunteers, and a willingness to work closely with parents
Compensation:
  • $100/Week for 35 weeks ($20/hour, 5 hours per week)
