The School of St Jude, Arusha, Tanzania is a charity funded school that provides FREE high quality education to approximately 1,800 primary and secondary children from the poorest communities in Arusha.
We are currently taking applications for both Primary & Secondary Teacher Mentors for 2015.
All members of the teaching staff in the school are Tanzanians, who have a good understanding of the National curriculum. The role of the teacher mentor is to:
- Support the teaching staff in improving their skills in the delivery of the National curriculum to achieve the academic outcomes that the school requires.
- Support HODs and other local teachers to become leading teachers in their Departments
Mentors will work alongside their respective HODs as part of the academic leadership team in each campus to provide ongoing professional development training for the teaching staff. This training is provided on student-free days at the start of each term and throughout the term in organized PD sessions. In addition, teacher mentors are expected to teach demonstration classes, to show the practical application of the skills being taught.
Mentors also work closely with the teaching staff on a day to day basis. They assist in improving teaching skills, to raise the school's overall academic standards as well as enriching the learning and teaching experience for both the students and staff.
Living Allowance:International volunteers receive a comfortable monthly living allowance, which is enough to live on but not enough to fund travel around Africa.
