Position Overview
iMentor seeks a resourceful individual with clear communication skills, interest in customer service, attention to detail and a "can-do" attitude to provide event logistics support, ultimately ensuring high quality programming for over 3,000 students across New York City.
Reporting to the Senior Program Events Manager and working closely with Program staff, Event Assistants (EA) must have a sincere commitment to professionalism and be excited by working in a fast-paced event environment. Assistants will join will join a high energy and hard working iMentor staff team, passionate about helping more low-income, first-generation college students graduate high school college-ready and succeed in college.

Responsibilities
Training will be provided for all responsibilities.
  • Assist NYC Program Events team with event preparation and on-site event management as a part-time staff member:
    • Preparing event materials and equipmentfor transportation to event site
    • Assist with setup and breakdown of small to large scale iMentor events at various venues throughout NYC boroughs
    • Coordinate with food vendors on-site, managing food distribution and serving participants
    • Support sign-in process on-site and monitor safety of event participants to and from event venues
    • Support NYC staff in the successful execution of event curriculum and activities, while providin logistical support
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities at iMentor and complete all required trainings
  • Provide occassional project support, including data entry, for cross-departmental initiatives
  • Help with preparations for annual end of year celebration in June and provide day-of logistical support

Additional Details
  • Compensation: $9-$11/hour, commensurate with experience. Travel by public transportation throughout NYC to various sites may be required. Event Assistants will be provided with MetroCards to cover the cost of transportation from the office to the event.
  • Work schedule: Event Assistants must be able to commit to a regular evening schedule, with availability 3-4 evenings per week, Monday-Thursday, 3:00-8:00 PM. This excludes NYC Department of Education school holidays. Position duration from September 2014 – June 2015.
  • Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory fingerprinting and criminal background check, conducted by the Division of Human Resources at the New York City Department of Education.
Qualifications
  • Interest in youth development or education sector
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation with a demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Resourceful, self motivated, and able to work independently yet know when to ask for help.
  • Must be responsible, trustworthy, and detail oriented
  • Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lift and transport light supplies
  • Able to commit to regular evening schedule
  • Familiar with and comfortable navigating NYC public transit
  • Aligned in thought and action with iMentor's values (www.imentor.org/values)
  • High school degree required; must be currently enrolled or seeking enrollment in a 2 or 4-year degree program
