RESEARCH OFFICER Title: Research Officer
Report to: Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator
Location: Moshi, Tanzania

Purpose of Position:
Research Officer, Quality Assurance Department
The role of research is to build an evidence-based practice for Mkombozi's work with children and young people.  This is a high-level, strategic position intended to provide leadership, diligence and imagination to Mkombozi's research initiatives. Your mission is to take forward Mkombozi's new research and baseline information for the implementation of the new strategic plan.

You will work closely with the Director and the M&E Coordinator to ensure that Mkombozi research informs Mkombozi's strategic plan, programmes, fundraising, advocacy and communications initiatives.  You will be responsible for implementation of all of Mkombozi's research initiatives including research design, piloting of new methodologies, data analysis and report writing.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Initiation and management of Mkombozi's research initiatives.
Supervision and management of Research Interns and volunteers.
Supporting the M&E Coordinator in development of research ideas and presentation of them as detailed proposals for donors.
Assisting M&E Coordinator in data collection and analysis for Mkombozi's M&E systems.
Writing of research reports and submission to scientific journals as articles.
Support M&E Coordinator in the organization of a biennial census of street-involved children to track the dynamics of street-involved child populations and biennial baseline study on perceptions of child abuse in communities as well as other annual and biennial surveys.
Training programme staff in research techniques and research issues.
Presentation of field data gathered at international conferences.
Coming up with innovative ways of disseminating research findings to all stakeholders such as donors, community, Government and other NGOS

Education, Experience and Skills Required
Bachelor's degree in social sciences, or other relevant field
A high level of fluency in English in written and oral communications
Experience in designing and running research projects
Experience in data management and in using database programs (preferably EpiInfo, SPSS and Access) for data entry, analysis and reporting
Experience and skills in using Microsoft Word and Excel
Cross-cultural communication skills
Ability to work as a team player
Knowledge of Swahili and experience living in East Africa would be beneficial
