Programmes on Offer
The NM-AIST hereby invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to pursue Master's and/or PhD study programmes. The programmes on offer from September 2012 will be:
Entry Qualifications
Admission to the programmes is open to any qualified applicant from Tanzania, the Eastern African Region and Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The minimum qualifications for one to be eligible for admission to NM-AIST's Master's and PhD programmes are as follows:
Candidates for whom English was not their study language at undergraduate level will be required to prove their English proficiency by taking TOEFL examination. The minimum accepted TOEFL score is 90 points made up of following minimum in each area: Reading - 25; Listening - 20; Speaking - 20; and Writing - 25.
In addition to the criteria above, applicants must meet the programme specific requirements below:
Life Sciences and Bioengineering (LSBE) Programme: Holders of BSc, or equivalent, in one of the following: Medicine, Biomedical, Veterinary, Zoology, Biotechnology, Agriculture General, Crop Science, Horticulture, Animal Science, Biology, Botany, Food Science, Home Economics, Nutrition, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Aquaculture, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
Mathematics and Computational Science and Engineering (MCSE) Programme:Holders of BSc, or equivalent, in one of the following: Pure Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.
Information and Communication Science and Engineering (ICSE) Programme:Holders of BSc or equivalent in one of the following: Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Science, Communications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems and Engineering or Information Technology, or related fields.
Water and Environmental Science and Engineering (WESE) Programme. Holders of BSc, or equivalent, in one of the following: Chemistry/Chemical Engineering, Food and Biochemical Engineering, Biology, Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology; Agriculture, Wildlife, Forestry, Irrigation Engineering; Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Geology; Water Resources Engineering, Hydrology/Hydro-Geology; Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management; Public Health, or related fields.
Materials Science and Engineering (MaSE) Programme. Holders of BSc, or equivalent, in one of the following: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or related fields.
Sustainable Science and Engineering (SESE) Programme: Holders of BSc or equivalent in: Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, relevant disciplines which should include Basic Engineering Science such as Engineering Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid Dynamics, Mathematics and Numerical Methods, or related fields.

Few Scholarships Available Competitively
Limited number of student scholarships are available for the most competitive and needy candidates. Special application forms (Form NM-A102) have to be filled by any applicant who wishes to be considered for award of such scholarships.

- Copies of degree certificates certified by the offering University
- Transcripts of academic work certified by the offering University
- Copies of A-level and O-level School certificates
- Two letters of recommendation
- If employed, A signed certification of employment and grant of study leave
- Bank pay-in slip as evidence of payment of Application Fees
- TOEFL results for those whose undergraduate studies were not in English
- Those wishing to apply for scholarship must also submit a duly filled Application form for scholarship (Form NM-A102). at www.nm-aist.ac.tz
- Applicants are encouraged to apply through online forms available at www.nm-aist.ac.tz;
- The application forms are also available at the Tengeru Campus or can be downloaded from the NM-AIST's website;
- Applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee of USD 30 or TShs 50,000 for Master's and USD 40 or TShs 65,000 for PhD programmes of study.
