JUNIOR PROFESSIONAL OFFICER 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Private Forestry Programme (PFP) is a bilateral initiative between the Governments of Finland and Tanzania. The Programme increases income in the Southern Highlands through science-based private plantation forestry, and by strengthening forest industries.
PFP wishes to recruit a TGA Business Development Advisor, Forestry and Wood Industries Training Centre Manager, Forest and Wood Industries Training Coordinator, Nursery manager, and a Junior Professional Officer.

These positions are as detailed below:
Position: Junior Professional Officer
Duty station: Southern Highlands of Tanzania
Duration: Up to 31 December 2017 initially

This position is to provide an exceptionally bright forestry graduate an opportunity to work with and learn from the programme.

The specific tasks of the successful candidate will include the following:

1. Assist in programme planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting
2. Assist in surveys and research tasks
3. Assist in data entry and analysis
4. Monitor service providers
5. Translate wherever necessary relevant documents in Swahili and English
6. Prepare consultations with relevant stakeholders Including meetings and work shops
7. Assist in budgeting and financial issues, including organizing payments for workshop participants
8. Assist in programme material production
9. Assist in awareness raising
10. Liaise with stakeholders, especially TGAs and community based groups

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in forestry or relevant field. MSc is considered an advantage.
2. Excellent academic record and solid experience in performing statistical data analysis is a must.
3. Some work experience outside academic circles is an advantage.
4. Highly driven, able to work under pressure and follow deadlines.
5. Experience from multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team work is an advantage.
6. Ability to interact comfortably with rural communities and senior officials.
7. Excellent written and verbal Kiswahili and English skills.
8. Proven ability to deliver required outputs.
9. Willingness to travel to rural areas.

NURSERY ADVISOR 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

4: Nursery Advisor
Duty station: Southern Highlands of Tanzania.
Duration: Up to 31 December 2017 initially

The specific tasks of the successful candidate will include the following:
1. Supervise the timely production of high quality tree seedlings through contracted nurseries Establish and manage medium size tree nursery to produce high quality pine, eucalyptus and cypress seedlings for commercial plantations, demonstration plots and research.
2. Construction of nursery structures and accessories as needed.
3. Hiring of workers and training them in nursery techniques.
4. Clarification and enforcement of safety and environmental regulations and policies supervision of work.
7. Control of all work areas in the nursery and supervision of work being done.
8. Identification of potential plant problems such as diseases, weeds and insect pests.
9. Overall supervision of application of pesticides and fertilizers to plants.
10.Strengthening the capability of Tree Growers Associations in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania to produce high quality seedlings for local demand.


Qualifications:
1 Bachelor degree in forestry or agribusiness or other relevant field.
2 At least 7 years of senior level experience in tree growing.
3 Experience in plantation forestry.
4 Excellent oral and written communication skills both in
English and Swahili.

3: Forest And Wood Industries Training Coordinator

Duty station: Forestry and Wood Industry Training Centre in Mafinga
Duration: Up to 31 December 2017 initially

The specific tasks of the successful candidate will include the following:
1. Coordinate, plans and when possible, executes training activities, especially short courses in forestry
2. Plan and manage the course schedule of the Wood Industry Training Unit
3. Conduct M&E of the training sawmill in collaboration with the CBCA
4. Manage the course schedule and student roster
5 Plan and manage training materials
6 Contact person for all stakeholders, including students on training issues related to forestry and wood processing tuition in lringa and Njombe regions. (One stop place for all forestry and wood sector tuition info)
7 Assist in advertising and event management
8 Manage all practicalities related to organizing classes at the
FWITC (facilities, assists students In issues like accommodation and transportation)

Qualifications:
1 Bachelor's degree or higher in forestry, wood processing or other relevant field.
2 At least five years of directly relevant senior level experience.
3 Highly driven, able to work under pressure and follow deadlines.
4 Experience from multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team work.
5 Ability to interact comfortably with rural communities and senior officials.
6 Excellent written and verbal Kiswahili and English skills.

2: Forestry and Wood Industries Training Centre Manager
Duty station: Forestry and Wood Industry Training Centre in Mafinga
Duration: up to 31st Dec 2017 Initially

The specific tasks of the successful candidate will include the following:
1. Manage day-to-day functions of the Forest and Wood Industries Training Centre.
2. Supervise the training programmes: short courses in forestry and wood processing, VETA level training in wood processing
3. Collaborate with the VETA level forestry training unit (if not organized In Mafinga, In which case the manager willmanage that training as well)
4. Supervise the trainers/operators
5. Consult with relevant training establishments in Tanzania to improve training programmes and expand industrial training schedules
6. Assist in developing training programmes and developing awareness of forest-related topics for training potential
7. Ensure the industrial training unit is managed within the annual/monthly budget schedule
8. Assist in the preparation of the annual budget
9. Develop and maintain communications with both large and small industry stakeholders in the Southern Highlands region
10. Assist in the planning and organization of workshops and meetings to promote. and increase awareness of the industrial training unit
11. Assist in collection of data, analysis and preparation of reports on any baseline studies requested of the Industrial Development Team
12. Develop a communications strategy to introduce products manufactured in the industrial training unit to the Tanzanian market
13. Market and sell products manufactured at the industrial training unit
14. Promote the reputation of the centre and develops financial sustainability

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree or higher in forestry, wood processing or other relevant field.
2. At least ten years of directly relevant senior level experience
3. Highly driven, able to work under pressure and follow deadlines.
4. Experience from multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team work.
5. Ability to interact comfortably with rural communities and senior officials.
6. Excellent written and verbal Kiswahili and English skills.
7. Proven ability to deliver required outputs.

1: Tree Grower Association Business Development Advisor
Duty station: Southern Highlands of Tanzania.
Duration: Up to 31 December 2017 initially

The specific tasks of the successful candidate will include the following:

1. Provide business advisory services and financing options to tree growers'
2. Advice tree growers in regulatory, legislation and policy issues.
3. Conduct workshops and meetings to support Tree Growers in improving profits on their investments.
4. Negotiate with input suppliers of forestry tools, equipment, and chemicals as needed in order to leverage lower costs for members.
5. Link TGAs with forest industries and other timber markets and seek vertical integration pursuant to improved profitability for timber growers.

Qualifications:
1 . Bachelor degree in forestry or agribusiness or other relevant field.
2. At least 7 years of senior level experience in forestry sector.
3. Experience in plantation forestry is essential.
4. Proven ability to negotiate at policy level, as well as at community level.
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills both in English and Swahili.
