Jobs at Arusha International Conference Centre , 3/7/2016



The Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) was established under the Public Corporations Act No. 17 of 1969 by a Presidential Order through Government Notice number 115, published on 25th August, 1978. The Centre is wholly owned by the Government of United Republic of Tanzania and operates under the purview of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation.
The AICC was established to manage and control the Headquarters' complex of the defunct East African Community in Arusha which belonged to the defunct East African Community.  It also owns Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre as per Arusha International Conference Centre (Amendment) Order of 2014, dated 19th March, 2014; and provide facilities and services on the complex for purposes of conferences, meetings, seminars etc.
The Centre invites applications from suitably qualified Tanzanians to fill in the below mentioned vacant posts:-
  1. MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN – PLUMBER II  (ONE POST)
Answerable to Senior Maintenance Technician – Plumber
Qualifications
  1. Maintenance Technician – Plumber II  – CSS 4
  • Entry Qualifications
Holder of Form IV/VI Certificate of Secondary Education with National Vocational Award Level II in Plumbing with at least three years relevant experience
  • Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assist in the maintenance and repair of Centre's facilities
  2. Assist in monitoring all work being performed by outside contractors
  3. Responsible for 24 hour emergency maintenance services
  4. Ensuring inspections of conferences and offices are done according to the laid down procedures
  5. Monitor and maintain all building systems as assigned
  6. Ensuring that maintenance and repair are done properly and professionally
  7. Repair and replace worn out or damaged property
  8. Keeping records for every maintenance and repair works undertaken
  9. Performing any other duties relevant to the scope of work that may be assigned by Senior Maintenance Technician – Plumber
  1. CLERK OF WORKS
Reports to: Project Manager
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or equivalent qualifications and five years working experience in building construction in the capacity of Clerk of Works or Project Manager,
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, codes, and other material pertinent to construction,
  • Working knowledge of building components and systems,
  • Knowledge of construction materials, means and methods,
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships,
  • Ability to wear/use personal protective gear as needed on construction site.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • The Clerks of Works reports to the Consultant (Architect)/ Project Manager,
  • To coordinate and monitor all phases of construction of the exhibition facility,
  • To observe contract schedule, procedures, workmanship, health and safety, and ensure smooth coordination between the contractor, the consultants and the Centre,
  • To ensure that a high standard of quality control and supervision is maintained by the contractor(s),
  • To provide information at all times to the Consultant by ensuring that the standards of work and the materials supplied by contractors are as specified,
  • To monitor the performance of contractor(s) on site and to ensure that engineering installations are constructed in accordance with drawings and specifications,
  • To identify technical problems on site, to recommend corrective action and to issue directions as authorized by the Consultant,
  • To witness testing, commissioning and balancing of engineering installations,
  • To maintain records at the construction site in an orderly manner as directed by the Consultant,
  • To maintain a log book of all daily activities including daily progress, weather conditions, visitors, inspectors, sub-contractors on site and nature of work performed.
  • To meet and accompany any inspectors from government agencies with jurisdiction over the project. Report the results of such inspections to the Project Manager and the Consultant.
  • To observe materials delivered to the site and used by the contractor(s) to ensure that materials used are those specified and the materials are in good condition and free of defects,
  • To monitor the proper storage of materials, including any off-site storage if so directed.
  • Conduct any other duty assigned by the Project Manager/Consultant.
