Special Notice
The appointment is limited to the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals. Appointment of the successful candidate on this position will be limited to the initial funding of the post. Extension of the appointment is subject to the extension of the mandate and/or the availability of funds. As the international tribunals are not integrated in the Secretariat, UN Staff Members serve on assignment or secondment from their parent department/office if selected. Appointments of staff members in the United Nations are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General. Staff Members are expected to move periodically to new functions in accordance with established rules and procedures, and may in this context be reassigned by the Secretary-General throughout the Organization based on the changing needs and mandates.
Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Language Support Services, Registry, under the direction of the Chief of Conference and Language Services Section, ICTY and under the supervision of the incumbent MICT Kinyarwanda Translator/Reviser.
Responsibilities
The incumbent of the post assists in the day-to-day operations of the LSS-Arusha Kinyarwanda translation capacities, including the processing of translation requests and the planning and coordination of the workload submitted to the Service for translation, editing, proofreading and referencing. Reviews and evaluates jobs to determine their relative complexity and priority and, in the case of the most difficult documents, analyzes their content to provide input on how to divide and assign them efficiently and fairly. Negotiates with requesters when necessary with regard to deadlines or changes in the format of documents to ensure an efficient flow of work and timely circulation of documents. Keeps daily statistical data on the volume of material submitted for translation to ensure proper scheduling and avoid overloading available capacities. Keeps accurate output data and compiles on that basis statistics of individual productivity per month and per performance cycle. Ensures responsibilities for the omputerized documents tracking and statistical database while ensuring their maintenance and proper operation. Developy work strategies in close cooperation with the MICT Kinyarwanda Translator/Reviser and the Chief of Section. Prioritizes and schedules production.
