ENGLISH / QT TEACHER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY




Umoja Tanzania is seeking a qualified Tanzanian Teacher to join the Umoja team. This position will be responsible for developing and teaching the English curriculum in the Foundation Programme (Beginner and Intermediate level) and assist other teachers develop appropriate curriculums.

 

This position is also responsible for taking the lead in developing our Qualifying Test (QT) programme. The appropriate person will have a minimum of a degree level qualification in Teaching and relevant experience in both teaching English and the QT system.

 

The English Teacher will report to the Director and Manager of Umoja Tanzania.

Job Specification

·         Develop and teach intensive English curriculum to both Beginner and Intermediate levels

·         Support teaching staff with curriculum development in other areas such as IT and Life Skills

·         Take a lead in the academic development of the Umoja programme

·         Develop our QT programme (starting in 2017)

Main purpose of the job:

  • To offer students an effective education in a stimulating environment, which provides equality of opportunity for all;
  • To deliver the curriculum as relevant to the ability group;
  • To contribute to the development and participate in the delivery of extra-curricular activities, events and initiatives;
  • To work in collaboration and partnership with students, parents/carers, other staff, volunteers and external stakeholders; and
  • To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of students.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Be a positive role model in terms of behaviour, work and attitudes;
  • Set high standards of work and behaviour in the class and all other areas of the Centre;
  • Plan for progression across the two ability ranges, designing effective lessons/programmes of work in accordance with the needs of individual learners;
  • Teach challenging, well organised lessons, using an appropriate range of teaching strategies which meet individual students' needs;
  • Use an appropriate range of observation, assessment, monitoring and recording strategies as a basis for setting challenging learning objectives and monitoring students progress and levels of attainment;
  • Provide timely, accurate and constructive feedback on students attainment, progress and areas for development;
  • Deliver the curriculum as relevant to the ability group; and
  • Advise and work collaboratively with the Management and others on the preparation and development of teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment, welfare arrangements and language translation as appropriate.

 

Required Skills:

·         Excellent English and Kiswahili language skills
