Blood Bank Manager



Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) is a locally registered NGO first established in 1994. It is the largest indigenous provider of disability and rehabilitation services in the country. CCBRT aims to empower people with disabilities and their families, improve their quality of life, and ensure access to medical and rehabilitative treatment. Committed to preventing disabilities wherever possible, CCBRT is also engaged in extensive maternal and newborn healthcare (MNHC) activities and is currently constructing a Maternity and Newborn Hospital which will serve as a referral centre for high risk and emergency deliveries in the region of Dar es Salaam and the Eastern Zone of Tanzania.
The Blood Bank Manager is a new position to support the planning, development and implementation of a blood bank at CCBRT. The Blood Bank Manager will report to the Director Maternity and Newborn Hospital Project.
Duties include:
· Provide technical leadership on the set-up and operations of a blood blank.
· Coordinate with Human Resource Department to hire and recruit bank staff
· Provide day-to-day supervision and management of all staff in the blood bank
· Manage the annual of blood bank budget
· Supervise the procurement of necessary durable equipment, supplies, and reagents for blood bank.
· Establish high quality processes and protocols for blood screening, component separation, storage, and distribution according to national and international standards.
· Plan and implement community-based blood drives.
· Coordinating with Ministry of Health officials with regards to blood collection, processing, and transfusion services.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· Bachelor's Degree in a Laboratoy Science field such as : Blood Bank Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Biomedical Technologist or other relevant degree.
· Certified specialist in Blood Bank technology; certification by the ACSP-BB, SBB, SANBS, HPSCA, CSMLS, BBTS or Tanzanian Society for Clinical Pathology (TSCP)
· 7-10 years experience in a clinical laboratory / blood bank at international standards with at least 2 years experience in a supervisory role. Preferably experience in low income countries.
· Must have the technical knowledge and experience in performing internationally recognized Transfusion Transmitted Infection (TTI) Laboratory testing.
· Must have previous experience training, supervising, and managing staff at a lab or blood bank.
