Background:

Childreach Tanzania is a Tanzanian charity organisation working in partnership with rural communities and government primary schools in Tanzania to help improve children's access to healthcare, education and child rights and protection. Childreach Tanzania has partnered with the UN-World Food Programme in Tanzania to implement the Maisha Bora project. Maisha Bora, a programme for the Districts of Longido and Simanjiro is a 5-year project funded by the Belgian Fund for Food Security. The proposed project aims to contribute to the development objective of improved food security of households in 15 targeted villages in Longido District in Arusha Region and Simanjiro District in Manyara region. The specific objective which the project aims to achieve is: 'higher and more secured income used for nutrition and improved local availability of food for 9000 households in 15 villages in Simanjiro and Longido Districts, and in particular for the 40%  of impoverished households, women and youth'. The multi-stakeholder programme team will be called 'Maisha Bora' (or 'Good Life' in Swahili), with partner organisations contributing to different components of the programme based on each partner's area of expertise. The components are closely linked and will feed into each other in such a way as to create synergies and results that are greater than the sum of its parts. WFP (in partnership with Childreach Tanzania) will be responsible for component 3 - Nutrition. In particular, the objective of this component is: 'More households, and in particular more pregnant and lactating women (PLW) and children under 5, will consume more diversified foods, use cleaner water, prevent and treat diarrhoea effectively and have increased awareness of HIV prevention'.

We are looking to recruit a Project Manager to lead the implementation of the Nutrition component as per specifications below:

Duty station: Arusha, Tanzania

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct nutrition and food security baseline study to inform programme implementation
- Lobby with school management and village authorities/leaders to allocate areas in the villages for Community Library and Resource Centres (CLRCs)
- Organise interschool competitions during African Child Day where awards will be offered to high performing health clubs/schools/children
- Organise interschool field visits to learn and share best practices on vegetable garden management
- Organise school demonstrations on improved food preparations (vegetables and animal products)
- Prepare HIV/AIDS IEC materials including training course outline brochures and posters
- Capacity building on HIV/AIDS education to facilitators (TOTs)
- Provide health education on HIV/AIDS to the community
- Prepare diarrhoea/WASH IEC (info, ed, comm) material including training course outline, brochures and posters
- Provide training on diarrhoea and improved WASH practices to the community using low cost WASH material to TOTs, who will cascade the gained knowledge to community members
- Provide health education on diarrhoea preventive measures and treatment to community members to increase their knowledge and skills on basic home-based diarrhoea treatment
- Form operational committees at the district level responsible for planning and monitoring of nutrition interventions
- Sharing programme progress reports and nutritional best practices with district officials by using districts forums, e.g. full council meetings
- Meeting with district health, nutrition and agriculture officers to discuss nutrition priorities in their respective areas of operations and be able to plan and include nutrition activities in the district budget (N/O)
- Lobby to participate in the pre-planning sessions with district health, nutrition and agriculture officers to remind them of the importance of integrating nutrition activities in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework
- Advocate for the prioritisation of women and children on nutrition and health issues in development forums at district and regional levels
- Create coherence and synergy on delivery of nutrition interventions among the district departments and other development actors which are directly linked to promoting nutrition activities
- Train outreach workers on their roles and responsibilities, code of conduct and distribution of working tools (job aids, t-shirts, bags and folders)
- To line manage 4 members of the project team and take part in conducting performance appraisal for project team
- To prepare programmes' narrative and financial reports as required, and to support project staff members to do the same
- Be conversant with agreed programme implementation plan, monitoring and evaluation standards and tools
- To take part in the preparation and reviews of Childreach Tanzania's Country Strategy Papers
- To be the contact person on all matters related to the implementation BFFS programme
- To actively network with like-minded organisations, and other stakeholders in the development sector and seek to inform and influence policy
- To remain in regular communication with Childreach Tanzania's Country Director and Programmes Manager, and to keep them  up to date on project progress and any other unusual situations
- Act as Childreach focal person in all nutrition steering committee meetings at the national level
- To actively work in coordination with the other BFFS programme partners and keep information flow smooth and consistent
- To perform any other relevant duties as assigned by Line Manager

Person Specification:
- A degree in International Development, Community Development or Rural Development
- At least 5 years of experience in Project Management
- Proven experience of conducting project evaluations
- Excellent communication, report-writing and presentations skills
- Experience leading and working with dynamic teams
- Willingness to work in rural and remote areas for extended periods of time
- Good team player with self-motivation, readiness and ability to support colleagues
- Confidence, ability to engage with children and officials alike, enthusiasm and a strong sense of best practice
- Ability to work in a coordinated structure and with multiple partners
- Ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Experience working in pastoralist communities  and in food and nutrition  programmes will be an added advantage
