Finance Officer
Background:

Childreach Tanzania is a Tanzanian charity organisation working in partnership with rural communities and government primary schools in Tanzania to help improve children's access to healthcare, education and child rights and protection. Childreach Tanzania has partnered with the UN-World Food Programme in Tanzania to implement the Maisha Bora project. Maisha Bora, Belgian Food Security Programme for the Districts of Longido and Simanjiro is a 5-year project funded by the Belgian Fund for Food Security. The proposed project aims to contribute to the development objective of improved food security of households in 15 targeted villages in Longido District in Arusha Region and Simanjiro District in Manyara region. The specific objective which the project aims to achieve is: 'higher and more secured income used for nutrition and improved local availability of food for 9000 households in 15 villages in Simanjiro and Longido Districts, and in particular for the 40%  of impoverished households, women and youth'. The multi-stakeholder programme team will be called 'Maisha Bora' (or 'Good Life' in Swahili), with partner organisations contributing to different components of the programme based on each partner's area of expertise. The components are closely linked and will feed into each other in such a way as to create synergies and results that are greater than the sum of its parts. WFP (in partnership with Childreach Tanzania) will be responsible for component 3 of Nutrition. In particular, the objective of this component is: 'More households, and in particular more pregnant and lactating women (PLW) and children under 5, will consume more diversified foods, use cleaner water, prevent and treat diarrhoea effectively and have increased awareness of HIV prevention'.

We are looking to recruit a Finance Officer who will be responsible for the project's financial accounting, monitoring, reporting and procurement, as per description below:

Duty Station: Arusha, Tanzania

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Managing the project's financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems
- Providing and interpreting financial information
- Monitoring and interpreting cash flows and predicting future trends
- Managing payroll for project staff
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of financial systems and processes
- Providing advice and information related to the project to the organisation's Finance Manager
- Controlling and managing budgets
- Ensuring all financial regulations are adhered to
- Conducting reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities
- Developing and maintaining relationships with appropriate contacts, e.g. auditors, bankers and statutory organisations such as Tanzania Revenue Authority
- Producing accurate financial reports to specific deadlines
- Keeping abreast of changes in national financial regulations and legislation
- Support colleagues with issues on Excel, budgeting and other financial matters
- Handling the project's procurement, while ensuring that all standard purchasing procedures are adhered to
- Managing the administrative functions that facilitate smooth running of the office
- Maintain office services and efficiency
- Responsible for office equipment repairs and maintenance
- Other duties as assigned by line manager

Minimum qualifications required:

- A degree in Finance or Accounting
- At least 3 years of experience working in donor funded projects
- Experience working with accounting software
- Readiness to travel to rural and remote areas when required
- Good financial report writing skills
- Good team player with self-motivation
- Ability to communicate financial data effectively, on paper and verbally
- Experience working with Sage accounting software will be an added advantage
- A strong sense of loyalty and best practice
