NATIONAL PROGRAMME OFFICER - EDUCATION & CIVIL SOCIETY

The Embassy of Sweden in Dar es Salaam represents the Swedish government in the United Republic of Tanzania and the EAC, The work of the Embassy comprises of maintaining good diplomatic relations with United Republic of Tanzania, the EAC, political analysis and reporting on internal and external developments in Tanzania as well as on Madagascar, development cooperation, trade promotion, information, migration and consular matters and to promote Swedish interests.

National Programme Officer - Education & Civil Society

The Embassy works in an integrated manner across the sections, team work is promoted. The development cooperation is carried out by the Development Cooperation Division (DCD) consisting of 16 people in total. The work of DCD is guided by a Swedish bilateral strategy for development cooperation. The Embassy is now inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of National Programme Officer to work in the areas of Education and Civil Society. It is a contractual position with a maximum of 4 years' tenure and 6 months' probation period.

Duties and responsibilities:

Development of portfolios in areas related education, democratic governance, and civil
society; and management of contributions in these areas
Provide back-up and support to responsible persons in the Embassy handling the Global
Partnership for Education (GPE) and Development Partners education dialogue meetings;
Support the Embassy in analysis, as well as reporting to Sida and Swedish Ministry'for
Foreign Affairs, on situation and trends related to education and civil society/ accountability;
Other related duties as needs arise/shift, including e.g. inputs to Embassy/ DCD annual planning and reporting; communication/information related to areas of responsibility; and participating in Embassy/DCD internal work; .
Report to the Head of the Development Cooperation Division for Tanzania.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: .

At least Bachelor degree in education, development studies or social science or equivalent qualifications
At least five (5) years of relevant working experience, including experience from working with civil society
Excellent working knowledge of English and Kiswahili including reading and writing skills
Good knowledge and ability to work with Microsoft computer software
Good administrative skills including web page administration
Ability to acquire new knowledge and use it at work
Ability to work in a multicultural environment
Ability to communicate and cooperate easily with government and international institutions, donor agencies, companies and colleagues
Ability to take initiative and work independently
