Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Headquarters Staffing Section (HQSS) of the Strategic Planning and Staffing Division, Office of Human Resources Management, Department of Management, which is entrusted with staffing responsibilities for Departments/Offices of Headquarters in New York.
The incumbent will work under the supervision of a Chief of Unit in HQSS. We are seeking highly motivated graduate students who wish to gain professional experience in an international organization in order to supplement their studies. This internship is practical educational experience and will provide interns the opportunity to work in a multicultural, intergovernmental organization. Under supervision, interns are assigned projects and tasks that are relevant to their educational background and interests and provide them with the opportunity to apply and further develop their theoretical knowledge.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time (five days per week), for a minimum duration of two (2) months and can be extended up to six (6) months. Four (4) to Six (6) months availability is an advantage.
Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the internship programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is required.
