Position: Research Associate 
 
Role reports to: Director of Extractive Services
 
Full or Part Time: Full Time
 
Contract length and terms: Two (2) Years
 
Salary: Competitive; with additional benefits such as relocation allowance.

 
Role Purpose
 
Established in 2008, the African Center for Economic Transformation(ACET) is a pan-African economic policy institute that supports long-term growth through transformation of African economies. ACET combines advisory and advocacy services with research and analysis. The Extractive Services Unit of ACET supports African governments manage their oil, gas, and minerals resources.
The Research Associate reports to the Director of Extractives and shall be part of the ACET team undertaking research and advisory services to help African governments manage the complex world of natural resource development.

 
Duties & Responsibilities
·         Identifying and designing relevant case studies to support the extractives advisory services work.
·         Maintaining a database of up-to-date policy, legal instruments covering the range of extractive sector governance.
·         Keeping abreast of global and regional trends in resource governance.
·         Performing any related tasks as assigned by the Director of ERS.

 
Person Specification (Required skills and experiences)
 
Essential
 
·         Broad knowledge in Natural Resources particularly in the areas of mining, oil and gas and environmental sustainability.
·         Strong and analytical background on issues relating to the governance of the extractive sector.
·         Experience in and familiarity with fiscal regimes, natural resources contracting, legislation and regulatory issues.
·         Must be a team player and able to work independently and flexibly.  
·         Must be capable of representing ACET and making presentations in regional and continental forums.
·         Good writing and communication skills.
Desirable
Ability to speak, read and write French is highly desirable.

Required Qualification
Master's degree in Economics, Natural Resource Governance, Law or any closely related area.
