To manage the day-to-day editorial/content of MCL's website ensuring it's continuously updated. This position requires a dynamic and result-oriented computer-savvy individual who is familiar with using the internet.
Main Responsibilities:
Head of Online and Social Media Unit in the MCl, Editorial Department
Re-copy taste editorial content from MCl publications, headlines and captions for facts,
accuracy, taste, house-style, language use, clarity, details and objectivity.
Edits copy to appropriate length, clarity and style without distorting facts or dispensing
with salient points.
Selects and edits pictures and write/re-writes appropriate captions to enhance their quality.
Instructs Web Designers in the proper laying out of copy and pictures/graphics in web
pages.
Tailors stories to reflect interests of local and international audience.
Ensures timely publication and sign-off of online editions.
Develops and strengthens MCl site as a medium of breaking news.
Develops and strengthens MCl e-Paper publication.
Develops and strengthens Swahili Hub linking NMG operations.
Updates stories regularly.
Responds to feedback, complaints and suggestions from online readers.
Initiates and develops content for the MCl
site.
Constantly updates MCl Website.
Achieves targets
Breaking news.
Deadlines control: Zero tolerance
Customer service: 24 hour turnaround for resolution of complaints.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Academic: Basic University Degree
Professional: Diploma in Journalism
Experience: 3 years journalistic working experience and must have wide experience on
digital/new media operations.
candidates with experience in blogging and other social media tools will have an added advantage.
