EP 306: COUNSELLING AND SPECIAL NEEDS EDUCATION (3 Units)
Preliminaries:

2. Students: Second year BA(ED) and BSC(ED).
Lecture Hours
Group A: Tuesday, 7.00-9.00am, Thursday 11.00am -12.00 noon
Group B: Tuesday, 10.00-11.00am, Thursday 7.00-9.00am.
Course Description:
The course is designed to introduce the field of counselling and special; education/exceptional children and youths to student teachers for the integration of such persons in the ordinary classrooms. Education students need to be aware of the presence of exceptional children and youths in the schools and the government's efforts to establish programs for children and youths that need to be catered for educationally, socially and vocationally like all other students. These students also need some basics in offering counseling services to their students.
Objectives of the Course:
By the end of the course, Students should be able to:
1. Define concepts related to exceptionality
2. Exhibit insight into the field and scope of special education delivery
3. Identify persons with special education needs
4. Demonstrate an understanding of basic concepts in special education delivery
5. Apply both cognitive and behavioral theories of learning in teaching students with special needs in integrated settings
6. Demonstrate awareness of various techniques of handling persons with special education needs
7. Show insight in the field of guidance and counseling
8. Apply theories of counseling in helping students with special needs
