ILEIA is looking for a
Coordinator - knowledge building and communication (0,8 FTE)
One year contract, based in Wageningen
ILEIA supports and promotes family farming and agroecology as key pillars of local and global food security www.ileia.org. As Secretariat of the AgriCultures Network, ILEIA coordinates the systematisation and wide dissemination of practical experiences at local, regional and global level. ILEIA also facilitates innovations in agricultural education and engages in advocacy for family farming and agroecology. ILEIA publishes the magazine Farming Matters with a global audience, and other AgriCultures Network members publish their own regional and local magazines. Together, we reach a million farmers, extensionists, development workers, scientists and policy makers in more than 150 countries www.agriculturesnetwork.org.
Responsibilities
Knowledge building and communication on family farming and agroecology are at the heart of ILEIA's work. As a coordinator - knowledge building and communication you will manage the production process of the quarterly magazine Farming Matters, which includes theme development, sourcing and editing of articles, preparing for layout and wide online and offline dissemination. In close collaboration with colleagues and network partners you will build a multimedia communication and outreach strategy. You will liaise with key institutional actors in knowledge management and agriculture, and will facilitate workshops on systematisation of experiences in family farming and agroecology. As a senior staff member, you will represent ILEIA in various events and play an active role in project acquisition and resource mobilisation.
Requirements and competencies
  • A clear perspective on and affinity with family farming and agroecology.
  • Masters degree in sustainable agriculture or an allied subject; a background in communication studies and/or journalism will be a strong advantage.
  • At least five years experience in knowledge building and sharing on sustainable agriculture, preferably in Africa, Asia and/or Latin America.
  • Excellent English language and editing skills (preferably native English speaker); one other language (French, Spanish or Portuguese) will be an asset.
  • Multimedia and online skills.
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to reach a quick understanding of complex situations.
  • Strong team player and networker with a facilitating style of leadership and good negotiation skills.
  • Proven experience in resource mobilisation.

Conditions
This position is based in Wageningen, the Netherlands, and involves international travel. The selected candidate is expected to join in February or March 2015. Interviews will be held in January. Initial appointment will be for one year. Preference will be given to candidates with a work/residency permit for the European Union. ILEIA is an equal opportunity employer.
