MINING ENGINEER SECTION LEADER
African Barrick Gold's Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania seeks to employ an experienced Mining Engineer Section Leader. This role reports to Technical Services Manager and the role holder is accountable to provide leadership, processes and procedures that ensure the optimal engineering designs in drill and blast, ventilation and paste fill.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Generate multiple iterations of long term mine designs and schedules of various mining methods to optimise resource extraction
• Maintain the essential link between long-term mine plans and the short-term planning
• Identifying opportunities that create value and develop strategic projects aimed at improving mine efficiency and flexibility
• Prepare the Ore Reserves statement accurately and on time
• Develop underground mine infrastructure design
• Produce yearly budget and LOM designs for financial evaluation
• Assist in proposing the equipment requirements for mining blocks to optimise productivity
• Application of information/design from the other technical sections namely Geology, Geotechnical, and Ventilation for mine designs using best practices and procedures
• Utilise proven and modern mine planning systems to achieve best practice integrated mine planning
• Ability to use mine planning software, e.g. Mine 2-4D / Studio5D Planner (Mine RP or CAE) and EPS, mineCAD and Studio3
• Responsible for providing business plan information before deadlines or scheduled date
• Undertake project work and troubleshooting as required for further optimization of mining methods, reducing dilution and achieving cost reductions
• Assist the Long Term Section Leader to complete the mine's employee performance management processes to ensure optimum employee performance and take appropriate action to remedy any substandard employee performance or behaviour
• Establish and maintain high safety and engineering standards
• Other duties may be assigned depending on mine requirements
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Education Requirements:
• B. Sc in Mining Engineering from a recognized institution
Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of 8 years underground mining experience including at least 5 years experience in a production environment, preferably in precious metals using narrow vein long hole stoping, Alimak stoping as well as drift and fill and narrow vein conventional mining
• Experience with paste backfill systems and in mine ventilation would be advantageous
• Exposure in the development of medium to long term strategies utilizing underground 3D mine design and scheduling software packages
• Thorough knowledge of Mine 2-4D planning software, EPS scheduling software or equivalent mine planning and scheduling software
• Highly proficient in MS Office Suite
• Strong communication skills both written and oral with the ability to clearly present and discuss schedules and plans with operations personnel
• Ability to execute project work, evaluate options and to write reports
• Exposure to working in remote locations
