Sandvik Coromant, the world's #1 supplier of cutting tools and know- how for competitive machining, is currently seeking a Machining Specialist – Japanese Automotive.
The Role
The Japanese Automotive Machining Specialist will be field based and responsible for working on his/her own and under the limited supervision of the Director of Sales. The Machining Specialist is responsible for the provision of technical support to the region or work group to which he/she is assigned for the complete line of Automotive Sandvik Coromant Products.
Key Performance Areas
  • Provide technical and application support to the sales, service representative, and regional customer service for automotive products.
  • Call on automotive accounts and prospective accounts to develop new business, support existing business, and to make technical recommendations to customers regarding the use and application of Sandvik Coromant tooling
  • Assist in solving any tooling related production problem and, where possible, provide productivity improvements by the proper application of products.
  • Gather information, compile data, submit evaluations on competitor tooling that will aid in the evaluation of such tooling
  • Plan, schedule and conduct trouble shooting tests, grade evaluation, run-offs, product evaluations
  • Be able to network and communicate with customers, Sandvik Coromant personnel and machine tool manufacturers located in Japan.
  • Prepare, maintain and submit expense reports, call reports, customer visit reports, test reports, technical evaluations and other reports as required in a timely and accurate manner
  • Review and evaluate product applications and make recommendations that will aid in product planning and market research
  • Assist with new product testing including conducting the tool test at the customer's facility, field surveys for new product needs, competitor activities/new products
  • Design and present training and product presentations for customers, channel partners, and Sandvik Coromant personnel
  • Travel requirements would be 50% – 75% travel including limited international travel Overnight travel approximately 3 days per week depending on the location of the candidate and customer
  • Desired location for candidate would be Indiana, Ohio or Kentucky
Your Profile
  • A minimum of an Associate in Applied Science degree in a related field with two to three years manufacturing job related experience or equivalent experience in a technical application position with a similar industry
  • Must be bilingual; fluent in both English and Japanese in both written and spoken communications
  • Must have an affinity to and in-depth understanding and awareness of Japanese business culture
  • Prior experience studying and/or living and working in Japan is preferred but not required
  • Must be able to perform mathematical problems applicable to product applications including trigonometric and algebraic calculations
  • Possess a mechanical aptitude
  • Must possess a current driver's license valid for his/her state of primary residence
  • Employee must be legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Employee will be required to undergo a background check and drug screening
