The Better Immunization Data (BID) Initiative's strategy is based on the premise that better data, plus better decisions, will lead to better health outcomes. Its vision is to empower countries to enhance immunization and overall health service delivery through improved data collection, quality, and use. The BID Initiative will shine a light on the challenges surrounding data collection, quality, and use, and identify practical, country-owned, country-led solutions in immunization that could spread to other health interventions. The Initiative will partner with countries and global health stakeholders to develop and deploy a holistic and scalable approach that focuses on information system products, data management policies, and the practices of people that use them in order to enable evidence-based decision making. These components will be packaged into a replicable solution that can be easily and cost-effectively adapted by additional countries interested in using it to improve their immunization management. If successful, a true tipping point will occur—one in which countries can access, analyze, and act upon accurate immunization data—anytime, anywhere, resulting in improved immunization outcomes.
PATH seeks to recruit 3 implementation specialists who will be based in the BID Initiative Arusha office, and will be responsible for the implementation of information systems in health facilities throughout the Arusha region as well as the Northern Zone. In addition, the Implementation Specialist will both conduct activities to initiate new practices as well as provide ongoing mentoring and coaching to health facilities related to new systems and new processes. The Specialist will be assigned specific districts and clinics as their responsibility area and will work in coordination with a team to implement these new systems and practices across the Arusha region and North zone.
Job responsibilities will include:
- Setting up computer hardware and installing software, including network experience
- Provide ongoing technical assistance to health facilities using the various systems and providing ongoing support to ensure smooth operations
- Provide onsite and remote diagnosis of problems faced by end users.
- Conduct training sessions related to use of new systems and associated practices related to data collection, data quality and data use (such as mentoring facility staff to understand and use data, and foster peer learning and support).
- Schedule and conduct regular visits to health facilities to monitor ongoing activities.
- Monitoring and managing systems for data quality, including completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of data entered.
- Conducting overall data management, including basic analysis, arranging data for reporting and visibility, and reporting back to facilities and end users.
- Documenting processes as they are being implemented to record any enhancements and changes made.
- Hardware and software experience—knowledgeable in preparing computer hardware and installing software, including basic network experience
- Ability to troubleshoot technology issues, both during and post implementation; both onsite and remotely
- Experience delivering end user software and hardware training
- Experience in introducing new practices and work in mentoring and coaching others to implement the practices
- Strategic and analytical thinker
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel specifically)
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to communicate with people at different levels of the healthcare system
- Fluency in Swahili
- Able to communicate (oral and written) in English
Advanced diploma (3 years college) in computer science, information systems, information technology, computer, and related subjects. 1-3 years of work experience in information systems implementation and support. Working experience in implementing information systems in health facilities is desirable. Experience in an international organization or in a multicultural environment, preferably with a health or development focus, is an added advantage.
Must have legal authorization to work in Tanzania.
