POSITION SUMMARY
Adeso is looking for a consultant to serve as a Resource Development Manager to manage their U.S. office resource development initiatives for an interim period of three to four months. The consultant will be accountable for implementing the development program at Adeso, which is currently focused on corporate, foundation and government funding. S/he will be supervised and collaborate with the Interim Deputy Director of Program Development Quality to develop technically sound and timely proposals in response to funding opportunities. S/he will support the Executive Director on a fundraising mission trip by managing donor communications, logistics and, importantly, coordinating post-meeting correspondence and follow-up. Ideally, the consultant will accompany the ED on the trip which is November 9-23 and includes meetings in Washington, D.C., New York, Chicago, Minneapolis and San Francisco. If possible, the Consultant will accompany the ED on the mission (with all expenses paid by Adeso). Adeso is seeking a mission-driven individual who will embrace innovation. This individual will report to the Interim Deputy Director of Program Development and Quality, and will be based in Washington, DC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Plan and coordinate the implementation key tasks in Adeso's resources development initiatives, including:
o Research calls for proposals and other new funding opportunities
o Develop and maintain relationships with current donors, prospects, and high-profile contacts and new donors as needed.
o Develop and execute pitches and strategies to reach funder segments, including creating supporting materials such as funding proposals.
o Track prospect and donor contacts, status, and next steps.
o Support the Executive Director in planning and following up the fundraising msision trip in November.
· Coordinate with PDQU in developing grant proposals, including design, technical, and budgeting aspects.
· Effectively link donor interests with the organization's programmatic priorities.
· Work closely with program, field, and other staff to provide seamless service and information to donors and prospects.
· Act as liaison and coordinate with InterAction in regards to Adeso membership and paricipate in various working groups as necessary.
· Embrace a mission-driven, cohesive, and supportive attitude within the organization.
· Maintain professionalism in all departmental activities and outreach, promoting confidentiality of privileged information.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
· 7 - 10 years of experience in an international NGO or development consulting firm with a successful fundraising record, including experience securing corporate, foundation and government grants. Experience with USAID preferred. Adeso will prioritize candidates with field-based business development experience.
· A deep, broad knowledge of development with a strong background in establishing and developing relationships with key contacts in the federal government, foreign governments, foundations, corporations and related international development entities.
· Prior success developing and implementing innovative and creative fundraising strategies.
· Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate confidently and effectively with staff, donors, prospects, and senior leaders; must have strong written, oral, and listening skills.
· Adept at crafting grant applications and proposals, as well as managing the grant writing process.
· Ability to convey complex ideas effectively and in a compelling manner to external audiences.
· Exceptional organization, analytical, strategic planning, and research skills.
· A proven ability to work collaboratively and thoughtfully across the organization and as part of a committed, integrated team.
· Passionate about the region and African Diaspora preferred.
