EDF PROJECT ASSISTANT AT EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY
The East African Community (EAC) is the regional intergovernmental organization of the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, the Republic of Rwanda and the Republic of Burundi with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.

The EAC mission is to widen and deepen economic, political, social and cultural integration to improve the quality of life of the people of East Africa through increased competitiveness, value added production, trade and investments.

This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated and result-driven professionals who are citizens of East African Community Partner States (Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda) to apply for the following position:

EDF PROJECT ASSISTANT (EAC/HR//2014-2015/018)

Type of Contract: Project Staff within the EAC, non-established
Reports to: Project Officer

Organ/Institution: EAC Secretariat

Funding: IRCC

Station: EAC Secretariat, Arusha, Tanzania

Role Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the EDF Projects Coordinator, the Project Assistant will support the operational activities of the Projects Preparation Support Unit in the delivery of its services, in close collaboration with the Resource Mobilization Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in the preparation of Annual Work Plan based on approval of the priorities by steering committee;

Responsible for logistical preparations for meetings, workshops, travel documents and tickets related to the development of the EAC 11th EDF projects;

Support the EDF Projects Coordinator to prepare monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports;

Responsible for M&E of EDF projects at EAC; and

Perform any other duties required for the effective operation of the PPSU.

Key Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences field or equivalent qualification from a recognised university.

A minimum of five (5) years post qualification experience in programme/project management, Funds management, fundraising proposal development and reports writing;

Sound experience in all aspects of project management cycle (design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation);
Proficiency in Microsoft Applications and
Very good communication skills (speaking, report writing and presenting in English).

Skills and Competencies:

High organizational and planning; analytical and problem solving skills;

Good interpersonal, team work and communication skills (speaking, report writing and presenting in English);
Proven experience in teamwork, networking, building relationships in a multicultural environment;

Duration of Contract: 18 months, renewable depending on performance and availability of funds


Terms and Conditions of Service

All positions are subject to the application of the Quota System while the Drivers positions under the General Support Staff category are subject to recruitment under local terms and from the host country only.

Education Qualifications

All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognised by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective countries. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.

All professions that require registration with the specific professional bodies will be expected to do so in compliance with the requirements of their countries. Examples include: Accountants, Auditors, Engineers, Procurement Specialists, and Medical Personnel.
Relevant Working Experience

Relevant working experience in this regard refers to post highest required education work experience. Internship, training, apprenticeship and clerkship will not be considered as relevant work experience. The same will apply for any experience attained before professional certification where relevant.
