BSCI – The Business Social Compliance Initiative was launched in 2003 as an initiative of theForeign Trade Association (FTA) in response to the increasing business demand for transparent and improved working conditions in global supply chains. The Business Social Compliance Initiative is a leading business-driven initiative for companies committed to improving working conditions in factories and farms worldwide. We unite more than 1400 companies (BSCI participants) around a development-oriented system applicable to all sectors and sourcing countries.
Capacity building is one of the most important pillars to improve the sustainability of the international supply chain.
We are hiring a full time Capacity Building Manager to lead the development, implementation and review of capacity building programs.
THE ROLE:
The BSCI Capacity Building Manager will drive the development, implementation and review of capacity building programs for different audiences around the world.
The Capacity Building Manager is responsible for the development and/or context appropriate refinement and adaptation of training material and support tools for member companies, their suppliers, trainers as well as coordinate training for auditors in collaboration with the BSCI Auditing Manager. S/he will primarily coordinate all BSCI capacity building activities for suppliers in supplier countries in all sectors and BSCI participants (involving different company departments, e.g. buyers, QC, CSR managers). S/he will build up and maintain the network of trainers in Europe and sourcing countries. S/he coordinates and delivers training activities for BSCI participants. S/he seeks external funding for BSCI capacity building activities. S/he works in partnership with FTA's other initiative Business Environmental Initiative (BEPI) on training material and programs to realize internal synergies (and to share best practice). S/he will cooperate with other institutions and initiatives on capacity building activities. S/he is responsible to draft and control budget for the BSCI Training activities.
S/he will work closely with the BSCI team and directly reports to the BSCI Managing Director. The position is based in Brussels, Belgium but will require occasional traveling in Europe and to sourcing countries, mainly in Asia. The position requires a strong background in developing training curricula training material and execution of relevant training programs. The ideal candidate is experienced in supply chain management and programs aiming at improving social compliance in supply chains.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conceptual work on of the BSCI capacity building policy
- Work in partnership with the FTA's other initiative BEPI to realize internal synergies
- Development, maintenance of training material and support tools for members, suppliers, trainers and auditors
- Coordination of all BSCI capacity building activities (preparation and implementation of workshops, trainings.
- for suppliers in supplier countries in all sectors
- for BSCI participants (including buyers' trainings)
- Building up and maintain the network of trainers
- Coordination and delivery of training activities for BSCI participants
- Cooperation with other institutions and initiatives on capacity building activities
- Participation in relevant BSCI governance bodies and other groups (Working Groups, Steering Committee, National Contact Groups, Annual Conference, etc.)
- Representing BSCI in external events as needed
- Drafting and controlling budget for the BSCI training activities
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- 7-10 years of experience managing capacity building training programs
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills
- Ability and interest to work with a multi-cultural team
- Demonstrated skills in development program management
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects
- Knowledge of and experience with computer systems and programs
- Professional experience in a retail company (buying preferred)
Desirable:
- In addition to excellent English language skills, German and/or French and/or Dutch are an asset.
