Analysts - Economics

Analysts - Economics
This is an excellent opportunity to join an analytical community supporting colleagues and Ministers engaged in work which matters to millions of people. Here at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), we have an excellent reputation for ensuring our work is underpinned by robust evidence and analysis. Our analysts work flexibly across the organisation, both embedded in policy teams and working in wider analytical teams, developing our evidence base and generating insight in support of key projects. For you, that means fascinating challenges, important responsibilities and plenty of scope to develop a rewarding and varied career.
Economic analysis is at the heart of the DWP's response to a challenging, high profile agenda. Our microeconomists work on a broad range of areas, including labour market incentive design, behavioural economics in support of pensions reform, and the development of technical models to forecast spending and outcomes. The primary areas of work are policy appraisals, cost benefit analysis and evaluation. Working with a wealth of data and using cutting edge methods, you will be at the forefront of applied economics. Along the way, you'll benefit from a strong focus on training and mentoring, plus opportunities to participate in debates with economists across government.
To join us, you must hold a 2:1 undergraduate degree in Economics or a postgraduate degree in economics. Joint honours degrees must comprise at least 50% of the course modules in economics and you must have studied both macro and microeconomics to qualify. Highly organised and determined to see things through to a high standard, you will bring to the role a strong sense of personal accountability. The initiative and ability to pursue ideas with little supervision is crucial. The posts are available on a 12 month Fixed Term Appointment, with the possibility of becoming permanent on successfully passing the Government Economic Service assessments.
The DWP's ambitious agenda of reform aims to create a new welfare system for the 21st century. As well as making sure the most vulnerable people are protected, we will transform the opportunity for people without jobs to find work and support themselves and their families. In return for your vital contribution, you'll enjoy excellent civil service benefits and our commitment to supporting your ongoing development.
Closing date: 27th October 2014.
