1. ILGA
ILGA is is a 36-year-old association of about 1100 member organizations worldwide that operates at the global level to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people. The association is governed by an international board and elects two Secretaries General to represent it on a political level. A staff of five professionals based in Geneva, Switzerland, supports the work of the association on a day-to-day level. ILGA values creative and inclusive approaches to work and management. The JobThis is an exciting position within the team of ILGA. In collaboration with the Trans Secretariat and the Co-Secretaries General, the post holder will be responsible for developing and implementing the Gender Identity & Gender expression Programme and advocacy activities of ILGA. Main tasks [see the job description for a full list]:
- Build relations with and consult trans*communities worldwide to assess their needs with the aim to draft the GI&GE programme and advocacy activities of ILGA, within the framework of the strategic objectives and key issues identified in the Strategic Plan and in the Operational Plans, in coordination with the Executive Director, the Co-Secretaries General and the Trans Secretariat. The programme specifies target and expected result(s), potential partners, funders, timeline and foreseeable costs of the actions.
- Identify and pursue advocacy opportunities relating to GI&GE at UN, together with trans*communities worldwide and within the ILGA strategic framework.
- Undertake own and coordinate research pertaining to the legal and social situation of trans* people, with the objective of producing deliverables to be used in relation to UN Advocacy.
Main Job requirements [see the job description for a full list]:
- Excellent knowledge of Trans* related issues, especially in relation to the legal and social situation of countries around the world, ideally accompanied by direct experience in working with and for trans* issues, research experience is desirable.
- Knowledge of the international LGBTI movement and human rights issues related to it, especially in relation to gender identity and gender expression, in particular in relation to legislation ; at least 3 years first-hand experience in an (LGB)T(I) organization are highly desirable, preferably with direct experience operating at international level.
- Fluent English, both written and oral. Fluency in Spanish and French are also highly desirable. Fluency in either Chinese or Russian or an Indian language would be considered as very valuable.
3. Gross salary The salary scale for the post is in the region CHF 60,000 – 72,000 (gross annual salary including of holiday pay) depending on experience. The organisation offers 25 days annual leave, luncheon vouchers and covers local transport. Some relocation support to Geneva is also possible.
