Reporting to NOC Manager
As an IP & Systems Engineer you will be responsible for overall integrity of IP network infrastructure. You will actively participate in architectural issues and produce both high level and detailed documentation, as well as provide high-level training for NOC and Customer Service teams. You will also assist with the management of IP address space and implementation of network equipment and services. This position involves participation in an on-call rotation and providing 3rd level technical support for escalated customer issues as well as supporting sales on an ad hoc basis.
Requirements:
· Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
· Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
· Microsoft Certified
· Linux systems administration ( Preferably Slackware, Solaris, RHEL6/CentOS6 or other derivative)
· At least 5 years of experience working with Cisco Network Infrastructure including routers, switches and firewall, from design and implementation through support
· Ability to understand new technologies
· Ability to perform problem isolation and troubleshooting in complex environments
· Strong troubleshooting skills
· Experience of leading complex change projects
· Great scripting skills (Perl/Bash etc.)
· Experience of Technical leadership – being an escalation point within Infrastructure

Key Responsibilities.
· Network design, planning, testing, implementation and assistance in the maintenance of all routers, switches and transport equipment to ensure optimum performance at all times.
· As part of the team, design, implement, configure and maintain the network circuit redundancy via Layer 2 switching and/or Layer 3 routing to minimize network downtime
· Network Monitoring
o Proactive monitoring and performance improvement of current routing and switching network infrastructure.
o Monitoring and management of VMware based virtual infrastructure
o Monitoring and management of EMC storage infrastructure
o Proactively and reactively look for solutions to prevent problems from occurring in technology area
o Carry out reactive and proactive maintenance on multi-customer, multi-technology networks, achieving agreed performance targets
o Maintain and enhance current WAN optimization technology
· Systems and Services
o ISP administration Installing and troubleshooting DNS servers
o System performance monitoring and tuning
o Backup of network services such as email, websites, databases, monitoring
o Backup of systems and network configurations
o Performing routine audits of systems and software and file system contents using tools such as tripwire and rkhunter
o Apply patches and security changes per policy. Proactively monitor the environment for patch compliance. Analyze patches for compatibility with each infrastructure environment
o Installing, configuring and managing new hardware and software for servers, user PCs and laptops
· Documentation
o Creation of Network Topology Maps
o Creation and maintenance of network and systems documentation
o Write procedures for the NOC to handle common tasks
o Develop appropriate standards and practices and ensure that they are documented, maintained and applied to all projects and services
· Capacity Planning
o Core routers and switches capacity planning
o Systems capacity planning
o Coordinate with network equipment vendors to ensure hardware and software features
· Technical Support
o Provide support and enhancement to existing network infrastructure
o Provide 3rd line technical support to customers via the service desk
o Troubleshooting any system related problems
o Resolve single and cross technology incidents independently, Work with team members to resolve unusually complex or cross technology incidents
· Solution design
o Integrate technical knowledge and business understanding to create superior solutions for customers
o Implement customer solutions
o Become a trusted advisor to company customers
· Perform other duties as requested by supervisor
· Act as assistant to the NOC Manager
KPIs
· Mean time between failure (MTBF) should be maximized
· Mean time to Repair (MTTR) should be minimized
· Systems Downtime should be minimized
· Maximize system availability
· % of email spam messages stopped/detected should be maximized
· % of outage due to changes (planned unavailability) should be minimized
· % of outage due to incidents (unplanned unavailability) should be minimized
· 3rd line service request closure rate
