SAFETY SECTION LEADER 

African Barrick Gold's Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is looking to appoint an experienced Safety Section Leader. The role reports to the Sustainability Manager and the role holder will be accountable to provide leadership, systems and strategies that deliver industry best practice in safety matters to ensure Bulyanhulu Gold Mine conducts business in a manner that protects people, assets and license to operate. The work roster is six weeks on and three weeks off. 

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

 Develop and implement a Sustainability Improvement Plan resulting in the following: 
o Increase in employees satisfied with their working conditions 
o Reduction in safety non-conformances 
o Increase in a number of employees with adequate safety and occupational health trainings 
o Reduction in AIFR, LTIFR, IIFR 
o Increase in incident reporting 
o Closeout of incident reports within 7 days of the incident 
o Decrease in a number of non-conformances related to mine investigations 
 Accountable to ensure that Operational Systems are compliant and auditable 
o Safety Management System 
o WeCARE System 
o Emergency Preparedness Management System 
 Management Information 
o Accountable for compiling monthly reports on time and that are accurate and have appropriate content 
 Leadership 
o Ensure that objectives are met by team members 
o Conduct performance monitoring and appraisal meetings 
o Existence of Development Plans for team members 

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS 

Education Requirements: 

• Diploma in Safety or other relevant qualification 

Experience Requirements: 

• 5 years management experience in safety management

• Fundamentals of Emergency Preparedness 
• Mine Safety Management Systems 
• Mining Investigations 
• Sustainability-related Legislation 
• Project Management 
• Financial Analysis 
• Functional Audit Design and Delivery 
• Systems design and implementation 
• Computer Skills, Excel, Word, Email, Pronto 
• Time management, scheduling and planning, and scenario planning 
• Analysis and interpretation of data, trouble shooting, Business Improvement tools and processes .
