2. JOB PURPOSE:
Within delegated authorities, the Officer is responsible for the effective and efficient coordination of logistics as it relates to rations and food related services within AMISOM.
3. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for staff management and work, work planning, performance and budget of the unit.
• Coordinates internal monitoring processes to ensure timely and good quality supplies of rations to AMISOM.
• Works in close cooperation with UNSOA, relevant mission administration, external contractors, and others to ensure the effective provision of rations and food related services, including:
• Forecasting and analyzing mission's rations needs, determine priorities, and support plans taking into account geographical distribution.
• Receipt, inspection, and distribution of rations based on identified needs and guidelines, particularly as it relates to quality and quantity.
• Facilitating coordination between contract and different AMISOM sections related to ration movement and deliveries.
• Supporting effective stock control modalities.
• Facilitating solutions to outstanding questions/issues/challenges as they relate to rations requisitions, food orders, discrepancies, etc.
• Coordinating with AMISOM personnel through Somalia, including as it relates to ensuring a greater understanding of policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices and provision of support to ensure good coordination and compliance.
• Monitors the mission's ration management practices, makes recommendations for action/change, and implements improved processes and systems.
• Works with the AU, mission leadership and others to develop and implement ration management policies and guidelines as necessary.
• Maintains accurate and complete records as it relates to inventory and other rations related information and provides statistical and other reports as appropriate.
• Tracks and maintains accurate records of all equipment related to the preparation and safe storage of rations within the Mission Area.
• Ensures AMISOM staff responsible for preparation, storage of rations and responsible for requesting of rations are all trained by UNSOA.
• Performs other logistics support and related functions as necessary, which may include the areas of materials management, transportation, maintenance, communications and others.
• Performs other functions as required.
4. QUALIFICATIONS:
University Degree in Logistics, Business Administration, Purchasing and Supply, Procurement or related field. A higher qualification will be and added advantage.
5. EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in logistics operations in military, commercial, or international organizations or related area as well as experience in the areas of nutrition, rations and related equipment.
6. SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
• Demonstrated staff and budget management experience.
• Strong working knowledge and experience in logistics operations and practices, particularly as it relates to rations and food related services.
• Ability to develop logistics plans and provide technical and procedural advice in a variety of logistics areas.
• Ability to establish priorities and work within urgent and competing demands to meet deadlines.
• Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and establish harmonious working relationships within the unit, partners, and other sections within the mission and within a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary setting. Customer service and results oriented.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve issues/problems effectively and constructively.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Working knowledge of Word, and Excel.
• Prepared to work in a hardship, highly pressurised and sometimes hazardous environment
7. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:
Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Knowledge of one or several other working languages would be an added advantage.

9. TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:
The appointment shall be for an initial period of one (1) year, the first three (3) months of which shall be on probation. It shall be renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.
10. REMUNERATION: The salary attached to the position is an annual lump-sum of US$ 88,548.93 inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff, and
US$ 76,945.34 inclusive of all allowances for locally recruited staff.
