POSITION:Junior Crime Base Analyst
LOCATION:Brussels
OVERALL DESCRIPTION:
The Tsamota Ltd seeks a Junior Crime Base Analyst to support its work in Syria and potentially in other countries in conflict. The work focuses on the investigation of conflict related crimes including war crimes and crimes against humanity, while adhering to international criminal investigations standards. The Junior Crime Base Analyst will, under the instruction of the Crime Base Analyst, be responsible for the analysis of material related to the overall objectives of the Tsamota LTD. The tasks will include, but will not be limited to: Analysis of Arabic language witness statements and preparation of witness statement reviews and summaries; Screening and evaluating material to be used as evidence including documents, reports, open source data, and witness statements; Drafting analytical memos and papers, Coordinating activities with other staff in the section; Participation as needed in related Tsamota Ltd activities; and Coordination with other sections to ensure product cohesion. Much of the relevant material for this project will be in Arabic. The post requires native or near-native fluency in Arabic and professional fluency in English. Pre-existing authorization to work in the European Union is preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As the assistant crime base analyst / investigator, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:
· Screen, analyse and evaluate material to be used as part of ICL based investigations;
· Work with other team members to collect information from various sources;
· Produce analytical papers and memos as required;
· Assist in the development of strategic analysis to support the planning of investigations and selection of cases;
· Assistant in preparation of witness interviews;
· Contribute to the design of training on standard methods for analytical and investigative purposes;
· Translate documents and provide document summaries from/to Arabic from/to English;
· Participate in the required field activities and missions as required;
· Perform any other duties related to the work of the team as required.
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
· Training and / or working experience in analysis techniques of crime, intelligence, social science and information management;
· Strong reasoning skills, including ability to understand complex scenarios of crime, handle simultaneously conflicting information and hypotheses, identify source biases, and develop sound logical inferences;
· Strong writing skills
· Advanced computer skills, including ability to operate efficiently databases, searching engines and data mining, specialized analytical software, GIS, statistics and graphic applications;
· Ability to work effectively and constructively in teams;
· Excellent ability to administrate and handle complex and voluminous sets of records and facts;
· Ability to understand the requirements of international criminal law and procedural law, and to interact effectively with legal officers;
· Ability to work under stressful conditions;
· Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality and security;
Education:
· University degree in law, criminal justice or related field; international criminal law specialization would be an asset.
Work Experience:
· At least two years working experience in criminal analysis and investigations or equivalent educational experience.
· Pre-existing authorization to work in the European Union is preferred.
Languages:
· Native fluency in Arabic, professional fluency in English.
