Reporting to the Country Director, you'll form part of the senior management team to provide overall oversight to Sightsavers' projects and support to partners. You'll be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, coordination and management of Sightsavers Country programmes, in line with the organisation's policies and expected delivery standards to ensure programme objectives are always met. The incumbent is also expected to take lead in the neglected tropical diseases (NTD) programming and spearhead its elimination.
  • Key areas of responsibility
    1. Strategic Programme Planning: Define the scope of Tanzania Country Office projects and respective components, in collaboration with relevant colleagues, departments within the organisation and key implementing partners.
    2. Programme Development: Support in the identification of new and strategic programmes and assist in the development of programmes through proposal writing.
    3. Programme Management: Ensure programme partners execute country office projects according to their respective project plans, and therefore supervise programme officers ensuring that they manage their individual project portfolio within Programme implementation Manual and Quality Standards Manual.
    4. Program Monitoring & Evaluation: Ensure that all aspects of the programme are effectively monitored and evaluated, and that learnings are systematically used to continuously improve all projects and programmes.
    5. Advocacy & Strategic Alliances: Build and maintain meaningful working relationships with both government and key civil society stakeholders at regional and national levels
    6. Resource Mobilisation: Provide assistance in identifying possible funding sources to support programme delivery and work with other colleagues and implementing partners to secure those funds.
    7. Reporting: Prepare timely and accurate donor reports on project progress and impact according to requirements.
The ideal candidate will be a Tanzanian national (or any national permitted to work in Tanzania) who possess a degree in a relevant field (Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Health, Education). He/she must have extensive programme management experience, with responsibility for large donor funded budgets preferably in the area of eye health or a demonstrated record of accomplishment in developing and managing public health programmes. Extensive experience in coordinating a large consortium grant is required as is experience in advocacy, monitoring and evaluation, and management of large and complex (multi-sectoral) projects. He/she will be a strategic thinker, who possesses strong critical thinking, problem solving, analytical and presentation skills with ability to influence high-level ministry officials at both regional and national levels.
