General Duties
- The Head Guide is responsible for the whole camp guiding department.
- To make sure that everything is in proper order and working well.
· Must check the occupancy calendar and day sheet on a daily basis for guest activities, arrivals, departures and transfers and inform the manager if there is a mistake or lack of equipment or drivers etc.
· Make sure that his guides are adhering to the task set out for them as above.
· Make frequent inspections of guides vehicles and equipment to make sure that all are present, clean and working.
· To organise the department with regards to leave and make recommendations to the manger accordingly.
· To ensue all guides retain a Selous Safari Company standard of guiding and continue to learn their craft.
· To make sure all guides are diligently filling in the vehicle log books and vehicle economy forms so they can be presented to the manager at the month end.
· To make sure that each guide supply the kilometres of his vehicle each morning to the store man.
· To inform management of any departmental issues, incidents or equipment requests.
· To keep animal sighting notes
· Show loyalty to company
Guide duties
· The guides are one of the main ambassadors of the camp and as such will be clean, smart and well presented at all times
· To conduct all driving, boating and or walking activities for the camp guests
· Strive to always learn more and to convey their knowledge in a clear, enthusiastic and concise form to the guests
· Making sure the car used is clean, presentable and free of litter at all times
· Making sure all issued equipment is well looked after, clean and present on all activities
· While driving to make safety of utmost importance with sensible, slow and careful driving at all times
· To respect the rules and regulations of the Selous Game Reserve.
· To respect the Reserve's animals and to conduct game drives in an environmentally friendly and ethical manner
· Bush clearing and maintenance of roads and tracks when required
· To repair all punctures on the vehicles that they acquire during the course of any drive
· To be competent in first aid and fire and to administer this to any guest while in their charge
· Strictly follow the guiding rules, times and responsibilities as per management
· Driver guides are responsible for the vehicle fleet as well as their allocated vehicle
· Boat guides are responsible for the boats/pontoon and both jetties
· Walking guides are responsible for the rifles and ammunition
Qualification
- University degree on tour guide from reputable institution
- Extensive experience in both Walking and driving tour guide
- Fluent in English, Kiswahili and other international languages
- Be passionate about wildlife and conservation
- Able to work on and responsibly manage department of 10+ guides.
- Ability to train/mentor other guides
