Project Officer, Communications

The Coastal Watch project aims to continue the energy and spirit of the marine conservation movement which developed in Hong Kong in response to the plastic pellet spill of August 2012. By contributing scientific information which will facilitate the Hong Kong government's inter-departmental working group's work of addressing the problem of marine litter, the project will help government create meaningful, long-term protection strategies for our marine environment. The project activities aim to:
- Remove marine litter from a number of sites in Hong Kong's various coastal environments
- Survey marine litter to determine its composition and contribute to efforts to trace its sources
- Fill in gaps in existing ecological information by constructing species checklists
- Engage local fishing communities in locating and removing marine litter in Hong Kong waters
- Train "citizen scientist" volunteers who will assist and promote the project
Responsibilities:
- Manage the development and maintenance of the project website and monitor various social media channels including but not limited to the Facebook, Weibo, Twitter, Youtube, etc
- Develop and execute media-related activities such as press release and press invitation regarding various ceremonies as well as maintain effective relations with media relevant for the project
- Prepare and disseminate communication materials to support the project
- Deliver digital-related promotion activities such as e-communications and online competitions, etc to raise public awareness and drive public support for action
- Work closely with the team to develop and execute media strategy and communications strategy for the project
Requirements:
- Degree holder in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Translation or related disciplines
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience in editing, public relations, marketing, digital communications or public campaigns
- Good knowledge of the communications channels such as traditional media, social media, website and/or other digital will be a definite advantage
- A good team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to handle multi-tasks and meet with tight schedule, work with various parties independently and work under pressure
- Detailed-minded, well-organized, highly-motivated and positive thinker with a 'can do' attitude
- Outgoing and able to work in field sometimes
- Passionate about conservation especially in marine issues
- Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese
- Proficient in computer skills, including MS Office and Chinese typing with practical knowledge of PhotoShop, video editing or equivalent software will be a definite advantage
