World Vision Child Rights Policy Manager
Positioning WVUK as a leader on children's rights

Child Rights Policy Manager

Salary: £36k plus London Weighting (dependent upon experience)

London based (with 1-2 days per week in Milton Keynes)

As the world's largest overseas aid charity, we deliver real change for millions of children in the hardest places on earth. Our mission is to bring governments, local authorities, community groups, businesses and individuals together to tackle the causes of injustice and poverty – and to make a real and lasting difference in almost 100 countries. When you join World Vision's over 40,000 passionate people, your work will be felt where it matters.

World Vision UK's child rights policy work focuses on ensuring the well-being of the world's poorest and most vulnerable children, with a particular focus on issues that impact negatively on children's rights to care and protection. We recognise that we must work both at national and international levels to bring to light issues affecting children in the communities where we work and affect positive change in children's lives. To this end, World Vision UK works as part of the wider World Vision Partnership to support and facilitate policy development and advocacy on issues such as children affected by armed conflict, sexual exploitation of children, child labour, child marriage and key development frameworks which impact on children's well-being.

You will be central to our policy success in these areas as you establish World Vision UK as a thought leader on children's rights issues with the UK Government, the UK NGO sector and the UK public, ensuring we have the knowledge and standing to inform and influence real and lasting change for children.

This will involve managing and advising a team of three policy professionals to develop clear, evidence-based policy positions on child rights issues, with a particular focus on those related to children's care and protection. At the same time, you will be a key WVUK spokesperson to policy makers and influencers, including the media, so you can expect a high profile. You will support World Vision field offices to research and advocate on priority child rights issues and draw on research from other World Vision offices to ensure that our voice is authentic and credible.

To be equal to the challenge, you will be a seasoned child rights professional with a background in child protection policy, impressive research, analysis, communication and interpersonal skills, a strong understanding of policy development and influencing, plus a proven record in project management. You will bring in-depth knowledge of child rights issues and mechanisms, particularly in relation to child protection, knowledge of relevant institutions (DFID, HMG, EU and others) and a postgraduate qualification in International Development, International Relations, Human Rights or a related discipline. Above all, you will be a passionate networker, thinker and relationship builder, and you will be ready to do whatever it takes to improve children's lives.
