Salary: £26,264 to £30,424
Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory
(Full-time post working Monday to Friday with no on-call duties, Fixed-term for 3 years)
We are looking to appoint a State Registered Biomedical Scientist to work within our Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Lab which offers a broad nationwide service, diagnosing human parasitic diseases using microscopical, serological and molecular techniques. The laboratory has strong links with and undertakes diagnostic testing of samples from NHS Trusts, private hospitals and private laboratories, working with diagnostic parasitology experts to diagnose human parasitic diseases.
The successful candidate will provide a range of diagnostic testing, adhering to strict professional CPA standards, to provide accurate timely results to assist clinical diagnosis and the day to day organisation of laboratory tasks.
Using your experience of antibody detection (ELISA, IFA) and molecular techniques (DNA extraction / PCR) you will undertake a range of diagnostic testing as part of your duties, including the following:
  • Screening of serum samples for parasite antibodies using IFAT, ELISA and IHA techniques.
  • Microscopical examination of human pathological samples to detect parasites and subsequent diagnosing of pathogens.
    • Diagnosis of leishmaniasis using molecular (PCR) techniques.
You will also have a key part to play in successfully ensuring the operational delivery of a small team and must have experience of being able to manage conflicting priorities.
The successful candidate will possess a Degree in Biomedical Sciences (or related subject) and HCPC State Registration, together with post registration experience in a clinical diagnostic setting. Experience of adhering to and maintaining Quality Management Systems is advantageous, but is not essential.
